Okay, so im starting a cosplay group in my school.

I know i was previously L but now i wanna cosplay Ryuk. He doesnt get enough credit, without him theres no death note!! Ive only reached volume 6 though, btw.

So, i have a Rem, and my friend (she'll be introduced to death ntoe soon) is gonna be Misa Misa. And this cute, awesome, dude is gonna be light. So i can be his shinigami >D ill have to get him a real death note tho. im not giving up mine that i already have >3

anywho, what would be the easiest way to make Ryuks outfit?

Im not gonna make a mask or anything, ima use my real face. Im gonna use makeup, i might get contacts, and ima use my real hair, just gonna spike it up yaay.

I need alot of advice on the fabrics i should use, what i should do for the jewelry his shoulder things and others.

so yeah, all help is appreciated!!!!

As for fabric, I am not sure, but don't use any loose-fabric. His clothing is pretty tight. As for the pants, you can use shiny-ish fabric (but not overdoing it), or a type of 'gothic pants'. And don't forget the 'feathers' on his shoulders, I love those! You can use long pile faux fur, but Feathers will work nicely, and you don't have to hassle with making a suitable pattern for the faux fur.

For people who do not know Ryuk (Darn them), provide some reference, it can help alot. =D

Also, take reference to the Live action movie! Its a extremely good reference source, since it is 3-dimensional. It will help you greatly.

haha thanks!! even though thats not much it helps alot!! I figured i should , he doesnt seem to have tight clothing at all! Ill have to see if i can go to hot topic and see if i can find something there. x3

When I think Ryuk, I think leather. It should be tight, as mentioned above, and something that can elongate your arms and legs is good too. I think that as long as you have the basic black pleather/PVC etc. outfit, the feathers, the belt, and jewelry complete the look. (wings too!)

yeah! tahts what i was thinking!! but i have to do more with the outfit to give it more of a texture like his outfit has :[

its annoying looking at it >.<


i might end up getting black jeans and maybe a latex thingy for the stuff like the pads on his knee and stuff. :3 and, i REALLY need suggestions about jewelry.

btw, i was wondering, how should i do the wings...?
i have an awesome tutorial on bendy out and in wings but, eh, what should i put on it? feathers would be difficult @_@

The wings are optional. They don't come out, only takes off and flies. When hes on the ground, he has no need for them.

I saw a picture of a fantastic Ryuk cosplayer that used man-made plants that were spray-painted black for the feathery-looking shoulder parts. It came out great, and is a good idea if you don't have access to long feathers.

Unless the jeans are shiny and super-tight, I think they might not be as accurate as pleather pants...perhaps even leggings would work, provided they have the right texture (?) and don't bunch up and stuff. Also, have you checked Goodwill? I recently bought my son a pair of kid-size pleather pants for five bucks for his costume.

You can likely make some of the jewelry from existing things, like the heart earring and chains on his belt. Other pieces, e.g., the belt buckle, you might have to make yourself. I know ppl can do wonderful things using hot glue and 3D paint on plastic, foam, etc.

You know, looking at that screenshot...maybe it doesn't have to be all shiny. The outfit looks matte there. Perhaps as long as you keep it consistent (top/pants are both matte or shiny) it will look fine.

true, thats what my step mother was saying but she also suggested perhaps a pull body suit @_@ i dunno how that would look. i mean like add stuff onto it.:3 like, one of the dance elastic things >P

Take a look at my Ryuk and see what you think... I went with pleather pants, custom made too be very tight, like needed some baby powder to get them on tight. So tight in fact they split before the end of the convention. I spent little under six months on and off on mine and debut it at Akon. I am revamping it for Ikki with full prosthetics and some more stuff. Feel free to PM me with any questions you might have.
Also, a lot of your reference pics were fan art... stay away from that, if you can find the art book from the artist online, if not I can see about uploading some pages for you.

Right on, another Ryuk cosplayer! We shall build an army. XD I myself am working on my Ryuk cosplay. It does take alot of elements to complete the costume. I bought most of the jewelry on ebay. As for everything else, i'm sewing and gluing. Which includes his feather shirt, wings, belt and all his other none-sense. Simple fabrics work, just make them look grungy. Good luck!
