Make up for L!

Hi! My boyfriend is cosplaying as L, so we need to make him as pale as posible. The problem is, I don't want him to look all shinny and unrealistic. I want him to look as natural as possible. Oh, and also some advice for the bags under his eyes. I want to add some black face paint, but not as black as for him to look as Gaara instead XD

Help please!

well i think if you get a basic cream foundation that is lighter than his skin color and then apply it on the face and neck all the way down to under whatever shirt he would be wearing...that would give a pale complexion

as far as the eyes...the bags are only UNDER L's eyes so if you just put face paint there and leave the eye lids alone it should look fine and not gaara-ish....

im being L for halloween and that seemed to work for me (although i'm pretty pale to begin with)

I would really try and get some black eyeshadow instead, it'll blend more and won't be caked on.

That and it'll look a little more natural than harsh black face paint.

When i did L on Saturday night (eeep...sounds so dirty :P)
what i did was outline my lower eye with eyeliner, making it quick thick around the edges. Then, using a cotton bud, smudge it so that it blends in.
Im lucky im very pale (seriously, no make up was required for the paleness!) so i can offer any tips on increasing pallidity!

He's very white, almost albino. His skin gets red easily lol so I might consider the make up powder for his face. The eyeliner and eyeshadow idea sounds good too. It's true, i will look more natural =3

i would stay away from any cream make-up or face paint...if you want a more realistis look.

Go with eye shadows instead. It blends better with the skin and makes it look more natural.
One year i did my whole face as a zombie/drownperson using only eyeshadows and eyeliner (white, blue and green)...and well...it looked almost too real....i used babypowder as my foundation (leaves you skin soft too lol)

Like everyone else said, just basic cream like foundation should do the trick.
As for bags under his eyes, just take eyeliner, go under his eyes...well outline the eyes first, then apply more under the eye and smudge!

I could do a tutorial for you if that didn't make sense XD lawlz.

IIIiiii just used a paler-than-average foundation (but I'm pale already) and put black lipstick under my eyes. Also put the foundation on my lips. I find that L's a very simple character...

Pick a pale foundation and powder, then dust white powder over it. (Manic Panic has good powder/pallor)
I agree with using eyeshadow for the eyes and blending with a q-tip, instead of face paint.

I think the most important thing in doing make-up for L is to set yourself apart. L is a very popular 'lazy 'n' comfortable' cosplay. First, I would use a powder a shade lighter than your friend's skin tone. If he is truly as pale as you say, perhaps a translucent powder [Ben Nye in Fair] would work best. I would recommend using eyeshadow [such as Physician's Formula matte eyeshadow quad in Canyon Classics] for highlights and contours.

Now, the eyes. One thing that L cosplayers never seem to think of is the fact that L never sleeps. This is not a blatant eyeliner crescent under the eyes. It is DARK CIRCLES. I would recommend using a matte medium gray eyeshadow in layers. Allow me to explain.

First, blend a light layer of gray eyeshadow on the upper lid and down into the lower eyelid [if there are natural dark circles there, take them as cues!].

Second, add more gray eyeshadow nearest the lower lashline [wider in the center, as L's eyes are quite round].

Third, add some matte black eyeshadow on top of that.

Finally, add some black matte eyeliner PENCIL to the lower lashline. You may need to blend this with more gray and/or black eyeshadow, depending on the effect you want to achieve [any stage performance requires more black to be noticeable].

My last tip is to blend, blend, blend! =D Good luck on the cosplay!

Hey kawara... You seem to actually know what you're talking about.
Since I'm a guy, I know nothing about makeup. Could you post pictures showing exactly what your talking about? And maybe show how the makeup should look by doing it on your face? XD

Pretty please.

wow i'm glad i found this thread! i'm making my friend be l for our otakon skit and i got bored at katsucon and tried doing l's eyes on him. yeah...gray eyeshadow, five seconds, and a dimly-lit dealer's room didn't work out too well.

thanks to this, i can actually do his make-up without screwing up!

now to convince him to buy some foundation...

Try looking in this thread too for information and tips. Eira was kind enough to put up a helpful tutorial.
