I need a long "godiva" style wig in a really pale blue. Most of the light blue wigs that I've seen on eBay and in costum shops are a weird aqua blue and it's not what I want at all.
I'm considering buying a white one a dyeing it blue. My question is - what would I use? Kool-Aid? ![]() Please help! |

Try searching, there have been a CRAPLOAD of other threads about this. However, there are special dyes called "diffuse dyes" that dye synthetic fabrics. Try looking for some of that in the color you need.

I heard that Rit dye does a good job dying wigs. However, I am not sure if synthetic will dye. I have never dyed a wig before though, but like I said, I heard Rit dye does a supurb job. You can mix and match colors to get your correct hue and everything. You can try it.

I don't think Rit dye will work on synthetic wigs, as it's intended for natural fiber fabrics. Synthetic wigs, being plastic, will not take most dyes. I've heard from people that dyeing synthetic wigs with regular fabric dyes will result in not much colour change and a lot of colour bleeding onto your costume.

I don't know, I just heard...so I guess not then. I had a problem dying something that was 100% arcylic, and that totally sucked. If you really can't find anything, I used art pastels. It will rub off on your skin if you let it, but if it is on your head maybe it might work. I don't know though, I am just offering suggestions, don't take my word for it. I dyed a Rikku X-2 scarf and it got all over the neck! But, again, if it is not rubbing against your skin, it might work. (Sorry if I am a box of bad pseudo-solutions.)

Like Space Invader said above, try searching the forums as there's been a lot of discussion on this topic. Katie Bair has a method she recommends which involves colouring a wig using permanent markers; time-consuming to be sure, but possibly a good option. Tristen Citrine uses a different method involving combing diluted acrylic paint through the hair; also time-consuming but I've seen the results and they're great.

Permanent markers come off everywhere. Get Rit dye in blue and use it. since the wig is synthetic the rit dye will only take so much, and there fore be only pale blue. Tada.

When searching for a method to dye wigs, I tried just about everything I had heard suggested, and I can professional vouch for the fact that RIT dye does *not* work for synthetic fiber wigs. Not even the stuff for acrylics. It simply doesn't have the staying power to stick to the Kanekalon fiber in good wigs, and even on the lower quality polyester ones, it only gives a very mild color. (If it doesn't completely melt the wig in the process.) I've finally got a perfect powder blue, and I'll hopefully be able to post the finished wig by the end of the con season. ^_^
