Yes! Please make this thread sticky ^_^

(And please don't get in a fight because of that stupid hair gel thing o_o IMO, 'don't use hair gel, use hairspray or spiking glue' is the perfect answer to any newbie trying to spike a wig - rather than list all combinations of products and brand names people have used in the past to style their wigs...)

You might want to add my #1 pet peeve to the list:

Long character hair ≠ long wig

If the character has long hair, but it's heavily styled - put into a ponytail, pigtails, braids, an updo, etc. - start with a shoulder length base wig and add extensions for the lengths. (Search the forum for 'ponytail', 'pigtails', 'braids', 'extensions' and you'll find tons of advice and tutorials on how to do that.) And even if they have super long, undone hair, you may want to think twice before you get a tangling monster of a butt-length or ankle-length wig and don't know how to handle it.

Along the same lines, a link to some 'detangling' FAQS would be helpful for beginners^^

QFT.

*Sigh* I have a love/hate relationship with my knee length Sesshoumaru wig, it's gorgeous, but needs to be conditioned/detangled after each wear. Without the proper combs/detanglers/oil sheen, it'd be garbage right now, so if you've never dealt with wigs, you may want to go somewhat shorter than is accurate for sanity's sake.

Also think this thread should be stickied, although honestly, the same people who fail to use the search function will probably also fail to read stickied threads. :P

Just updated the list.
I don't think most people realize what a pain in the butt ANY type of long hair is, wig or no. I used to have hair down to my lower back, and it was very hard to keep from knotting and tangling.
Yeah, it disheartens me that no one reads the stickies. It's almost like "okay, we put it right there for you! what more do you want?"

Oh, I've got one...

Q: Can I dye my hair white?
A: No, you can't dye it white, but you can bleach it to hell and back and tone it. Assuming you want to totally fry your hair and have it potentially not work/look terrible, etc.

Buy a wig. End of discussion.

This is less of an "OMFG I'm so sick of that question!" and more of a PSA:

When you DYE a wig, you are D-Y-E-I-N-G it. Not D-Y-I-N-G, unless you are killing it messily and making it DIE.

I swear, if I had a dollar for every time someone misspelled that... ^^;;

lol, in 7th grade we had to do a project on natural fabric dyeing with plants and such (we had just read gathering blue). and i had to edit half the papers for the teacher (because i finished a test early. that was annoying). every other person was misspelling dyeing, and it irked me so much.
on a wiggy note, i realized i addressed where to get wigs but not extensions. amphigory actually sells extension hair (http://amphigory.com/hair_kanekalon_silky_braid.html), but the color choices are limited-ish. doctored locks is the main go to for extensions.

to match colors from amphigory, katie bair made this really useful chart. it has color numbers as well which is helpful when trying to match with cosworx.

This thread needs to be sticky. It answered my question about detanglers and what works best. YAY! For not having to make a new thread over a stupid question.

If you need it to be a sticky ask a mod, it's more helpful than bumping it.

Does anyone know a thread for cutting spikes into a wig?
I've searched so many times, it's getting boring now.

I only need to know how not to mess up the bangs-spikes.

Here's a very helpful tutorial for a spiky Kingdom Hearts wig:

Does anyone have a good tutorial link or something in regards to putting a regular wig into pigtails without it looking horrible? For example, for those making Etna or Sailor Moon/Chibi Moon/Chibi Chibi/Black Lady/etc?

How can we acquire the part and make it look natural?
