Wa-Lolita patterns?

I'm trying to put together a wa-loli (kimono-inspired) loli outfit, and i have a costume kimono pattern i'm going to attempt to modify....

but i've heard some bad things about commericial costume kimono patterns.
can anyone recommend a free/cheap pattern for kimono or a wa-loli top?

( i have limited sewing skills, so the simpler the better. >>;

The concept looks nice, but I think a velcoed obi would work better for a closer. Back to subject, I don't have a pattern, but I have modified a shirt so it is used for my wa-loli. It originally closed right so I removed the parts that closed it so I could close it left (Japanese style). I could put a picture up of it, if you'd like to see mine.

If you were to use the pattern you currently have, make sure the kimono closes left otherwise it might be a problem. I'd go with the pattern to about waist, and then you could flare your top out on the sides. Best of luck!

American kimono patterns can be pretty messed up and hard to put together compared to Japanese kimono patterns from what I've seen.

I think for what you are looking for, I suggest finding a Happi pattern rather than a full yukata. Happi are the short cotton coats worn by male or females that usually have pants to go with them. However, since I doubt you will find those patterns in America, just cut the yukata pattern at the hip (or a little higher to fit your body measurements).

BTW PockyFille, we met at Ikasucon '07 and Ohayocon'08, I'm Katsu. (^_~)V Remember me?

This has been discussed before, but here are the links:

You probably will have to create your own underskirt. If you want I think I can scan the pattern from GosuRori which I plan on using.

With the wa-lolita outfit there seems to be two major concepts
concept A which is http://www.lolitafashion.org/images/wa1.jpg the one piece dress
and concept b which is http://www.lolitafashion.org/images/wa2.jpg more like a two piece. I originally meant to do the one piece dress and mod everything but when you are cutting out patterns at four in the morning you are bound to make mistakes. I think What I'm going to do its sew the upper skirt to the obi to make it look like one piece

My one qualm (and it is authenticity issue which I'm picky about) with the kanazumimiyoshi pattern is the neckline is down the middle instead of the neckline being tucked left over right like a traditional kimono.

Now, if one is trying to make the outfit look like an altered kimono (like I did), then one will need to keep that point in mind. If one is going just for the fashion look of the pattern, then by all means have fun with it!

The kanazumimiyoshi model herself kinda wore it wrong. In the model picture for front without ruffles (forth from bottom), she has it going right over left instead of left over right. I think it was just captured wrong in the picture, instead of like the concept drawing at the top of the page which is more correct.

Ah, that would explain it. Now that I take a second look at it, the concept drawing is correct and the model is just wonky. (@_@);;
