Question Bleach Captains Robe

I want to make a captains robe, quite a few, and they look pretty simple, except I dont know how to do one thing...
The black signs on the edges and back, you know? Like the number and symbols around the bottom.
How would I go about putting those on...? o__o

Nvm I think I've figured it out. I found a place to buy the number as a patch and I could make the other symbols out of similar fabric. :3

A lot of people will also use stencils and paint them on.

For the ones I make, I used iron-on transfers that we print from the computer. My brother custom makes each squad number and the diamonds and circles then we put them on. They are much easier to work with in my opinion and they do look nice when done.

I embroider the whole thing with a professional-grade embroidery machine.

While we're on this topic...does anyone have a good pattern to use for the haori in general? And do you think it would also work for the 12th Division lab coats?

You can use the Folkwear pattern for haori and modify the sleeves and make the whole coat longer.
Or use Simplicity 5839 haori and do the same thing. (That pattern has a haori and a kimono pattern in it.)

Then decide if you want a slit at the back or the coat or not. Depends on the character and manga/anime look, or if your character has a sword through the obi like normal. If so, the slit is a reallly good idea...

Also, change the lining so it runs all the way to bottom. The patterns usually have the lining start halfway up the coat like a real haori normally would, but that's not Bleach style.

The key is to not use a kimono pattern, you need to start with a haori pattern.
This is because the captain's coats don't fold over, they come straight down at the front.

For the lab coats? I'd have to look at pics of those first to add my two cents to the advice here on that.... happy sewing!

I've made all mine using a slightly modified version of Simplicity's matrix coat knokoff pattern. Basically, I cut off the sleeves, eliminate the front panels, and make the side panels a bit wider (though that last bit, as I found out with my orange version, isn't really necessary) And since the pattern calls for a slit, it's really easy to add, but also extremely easy to leave out.

I actually figured out that pattern by accident. I was making a mockup for an unrelated pattern, had it propped up on my dressform, and just kind of stared at it and went "Gee... that looks like..."

As for the lab coats... uh, I can't recall the details of them offhand.

About the labcoats to whoever asked:

This vid, about 1:45 in. Now that I look at them closer, they really do just look like undecorated haori with no slit in the back.

kimu - I'll check around for that pattern you mentioned. Thank you.
