Sorry I bump a dead thread...

Yeah, I did a search for Fresno and your post showed up. I'm from Fresno, too. If you really want to get into cosplay then just start. Buy costumes, have them commissions, or make them. I *love* it when people make their own.

If you want to meet fellow Fresno Cosplayers or cosplayers in the vicinity I recommend adding anijam as a friend to your myspace account. They had a cosplay picnic in April 2008 at woodward park. Also, there was a the convention in August, too. That was the fourth Ani-jam, so the convention looks like it's going to stay. Ani-jam is a great place to meet cosplayers in or near Fresno. If you do go to any of Ani-jam's gatherings (convention or non-convention gatherings), you'll see me.

There's also Fresno Anime. They show anime the second Saturday of every month from noon to 4 at the Fresno Art Museum on Clinton and First. Not so much "cosplay" as anime. I'm not show if Fresno Anime is still doing it but there is a website, just google to find it.

I'm not sure how old you are but if you're in high school you can start a anime/cosplay club. You just need a few students willing to join and a teacher/school staff willing to sponsor it.
