Yoshi Cosplay Help
u_u; Just moved over here because I realized that I clicked on the wrong forum. Apparently, I'm good at staring at one forum link and clicking another. Anyway...
I'm cosplaying Yoshi from Mario/Super Smash Bros, and I'm not quite sure how to make my tail. My body's going to be in a leotard and tights, and I'd make one out of fabric, and stuff it, and pin it on, but my fear is that the fabric of the leotard will tear if I pin it. I've never tried to pin anything to nylon/spandex/whatever this is (:\ the site didn't say, and I can't look at the tag as it hasn't arrived yet). Any thoughts? Overall, I'm taking suggestions of any way to make it. Also, the saddle. Should I make it out of craft foam? Stuff it like a pillow? I'm also going to need to attach THAT, and I would rather not have visible backpack-esque straps. I'd make holes in the leotard to feed the straps through, but again, I'm afraid they'll tear more. Overall, I'm afraid of sewing it. I've heard this material is difficult to sew. I'm not a fantastic seamstress as it is, and while--if sewing becomes the obvious choice--I could borrow a friend's sewing machine, I don't myself have one and therefore do any and all sewing by hand. Any thoughts? |

Any spandex or stretchy fabric is very difficult to work with. I heard the best way to get spandex to not wrinkle or stretch when sewing is to hand sew (which I could imagine would take...a long time).
I'm having a hard time visualizing how you want to tackle this costume. Are you aiming for a more humanesk Yoshi or more of a mascot type of costume? |

Much more humanesque. The costume is completely body-tight, and I won't have anything over my face. Just some makeup/face paint.

I think for the saddle we've decided on craft foam and velcro. The Velcro won't put nearly as much stress on the leotard, and I'll be able to take the saddle off for easier storage. We're still not sure what to do about the tail.
