Hey guys, need opinions. I'm going to AB next weekend as a battle-scarred Pikachu. I'm a tall guy, so I figure yellow hair and ears, yellow shirt with those brown stripes and maybe a black vest and jeans should pull it off. And a few well-placed scars of course. ;-p
My question is this. I had the idea to scrap the Pikachu tail and make a tail-shaped sword instead. I'd like opinions on this. Is it a good idea, or will I just look like a nameless ninja covered in yellow paint? Maybe both the tail *and* the sword? Or should I just ditch the sword altogether? =\ |

@hawkflight: well, that depends on a lot of things! how big are you making the sword? what material do you have or can you buy in a store near you? how much money/time are you willing to put into it? are you going to use it more than once? i've seen swords made out of practically every material (though the most common one seems to be papier mâché or cardboard, haha)
google really helps, i suggest you try that :> good luck! |

Well, I only have through Thursday, and I have a lot of homework to do, so I don't have a lot of time or a large budget. I already need to buy the poster-board and yellow paper for my tail, maybe I can use similar techniques for the sword? I was hoping to make it pretty big. I probably won't use it more than once, but I'd like to have it around.

So I'm in need of your guys' opinions. I just found out I am going to be making my boyfriends cousin a pokemon gijinka costume for this AX, on top of the 6+ I was already having to do (none of my friends know how to sew, but all want to cosplay).
He isn't decided which ones yet, but one of the ideas was Vaporeon. Well, I created this design based off of beach wear. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...7/vaporeon.jpg Do you guys think that will be easily enough recognizable? Is it too plain? I'm trying to keep it relatively simple, but I'm afraid it's not enough. I do quite like my hydro pump graphic though. XD

Yes, the white bandanna would represent the white frill around Vaporeon's neck, because I think the frill would look slightly out of place. XD
I was thinking about making the fins larger as well, and may do a tail, if necessary. Originally I was using the longer hair ponytail as the tail, since I've noticed a lot of people getting away with that and it looks pretty good, but I'm not against adding a tail. My boyfriend thinks its borderline too simple and ask you guys what you would add to make it a bit more special. (yeah, yet he isn't the one who has to make all of the costumes <_<)

Well, like I said, I would just make larger fins. Two to cover the ears, and one straight up on the head. And the tail. What else ... hmmm. Paws? I dunno. =P |

Perhaps instead of the general logo-ed shirt, have a pokeball on it, or better yet, the water symbol, and also include a tail, it'll look more recognisable then. c:

Well I know you said you didn't have much time so I don't know if you'll be able to, but maybe a sort of lightning shaped sword? Reinforcing the fact that your pikachu, and it could represent you using thundershock or something? Just a suggestion :P
