Unless you plan to actually hit somthing with the sword yes you need reinforcing, if not you will be able to make a masamune

As long as your not planning to hit anything with the sword building a masamune should be fine

Well done. I do a lot of woodwork, so I know the amount of work that goes into making swords. But I'd probably add in a belt sander and possibly jigsaw into the list of tools.

lol there is the problem right there your experienced so you know as to use a jigsaw as belt sander

My tutorials help people with no experience O.O

As for the tools not every cosplayer has a belt sander or jigsaw sitting in their garage. The cost of both of these even then is quite expensive.

Thats why I only used a file and a coping saw, to prove that I can make swords just as good as using machinery saving money and there easy to find almost everybody should have one lying in their workshop when compared to a belt sander and jigsaw.

I agree. A wooden sheath tutorial would be brilliant.

I'm gonna try and pull off making a wooden sheath this weekend. I'll post a tutorial for it once I do.

The tutorial is really awesome but I came across a small problem. Where could I find pine that has the dimensions 40in x 9cm x .5cm?

Oh, and Chipface, best of luck on the sheath!

I ran into the same problem as you linger0sniper. Instead of pine I got a sheet of poplar that is about 6mm thick and closer to 18cm wide. Just get something longer than 40 inches, you can always cut it down to 40 and use the rest of the wood for the tsuba. That's what I did. Oh, and I got the wood at Home Depot.

Yeah, I got a 48'' piece that was 9 cm across and 6 mm thick, it works just fine, all you have to do is cut it down to size

Not really. I paid less than 10 bucks for my sheet of poplar.
