Children in Lolita Fashion?
Hello!
I have sewn a couple of Lolita outfits for myself to attend conventions for the last couple of years. This year, our family has decided to invite our two young daughters to join us at our next jaunt. I have a copy of Gosu Rori #2 - and was so excited when I saw a pattern for a little girl in there. But my question - I will have one of my daughters with me at a few of the lolita panels, but I don't want to cause any problems. Is it ok if she dresses in Lolita? Or will this make people uncomfortable? I don't want to be poking fun at the lovely lolitas out there - just would love to see my little moppet in the cutest possible dress. Here is a link to a scan of the page: http://s141.photobucket.com/albums/r...current=30.jpg Thanks! |

I think that would be adorable
As for making anyone uncomfortable, I doubt it. The whole concept behind Lolita fashion is to appear childlike, elegant and cute WITHOUT sexualizing it. And what better to illustrate that than a little girl actually dressing in it?

You should definetly post some pics of you two. There are far too little (no pun intended xD) Chibi-lolitas out there, and it's such a cute idea. When I have a little girl she is going to have no shortage of frilly dresses

There is a lolita brand that caters to children, Shirley Temple. If you need ideas of what to put the little ones in, I suggest checking it out.

yay, super cute! i look forward to photos! btw, there aren't many, maybe just a couple, but i've seen some scans of the whole family in lolita/related styles, usually mom in lolita/aristocrat, dad in ouji/aristocrat, and daughters in lolita. so it's even cool in japan. XD

i made my two little sisters (10 and 7) original lolitas for halloween and even though they were crappily made, everyone loved them, and they were adorable in my opinion. though for comfort reasons we had to ditch the pettis for them...;____;
but it was a gothic loli pulling along a hime loli and a sweet loli XD so i think it'd be adorable :3

divine_fanaticy - We will be at ACEN in Lolita!! You might be able to see it first hand! *GRINS*
I won't have time to make up something new for myself... so I will be going in either my Lolita Alice in Wonderland or my sweet lolita outfit. bandXaided - Your sisters have so much personality jumping from the pictures!! So cute! ![]() Thank you for sharing pictures. That makes me feel so much better! ![]() Last edited by KeelyVH : 04-07-2008 at 08:32 PM. |

Like what the others have said, there shouldn't be a problem with your daughters dressing in Lolita. I've seen a few children first hand in lolita wear, they were adorable!

Lolita style is very similar to what I (and many of my friends) wore up until about six or seven, so there shouldn't be any problems. Because lolita is meant to be cute and child-like, it looks good and super-cute on children.
The only thing you might want to be wary of is calling it lolita in front of "the uniniciated public." For people who don't know about lolita fashion I think it would be very shocking/horrifying to hear a child is wearing lolita. |

good point. sometimes that's an issue even with older girls. they attract young girls who call her a princess, and if mom starts asking questions, she can be scared off pulling the kids along in 5 seconds flat. just say it's japanese. =3
