Just keep practicing. Try putting it a little farther away from your eye so you get comfortable with it at least near your eye. Also use regular eyeliner, not liquid, it is more forgiving for beginners.
It won't kill you, I promise. ![]()

Even if you do get some of the eyeliner in your eye, it won't really hurt.
Go with an eyeliner pencil since after years of wearing make up, I STILL can't put on liquid eyeliner without getting 90% of it in my eye. If you are still paranoid, close the eye you are applying the eyeliner on and trace the eye round the lash lines and try to get your lower lid as well. When you open your eye, just wipe the extra smudge off. It gets easier with time---trust me. |

Go slowly. Rush jobs will end in tears, and eyeliner all over your face.
Use liquid only on the upper lid, and fill in the lids around your eyeballs with a pencil liner. |

ok, how to apply liquid eyeliner:
Stand infront of your mirror and stare into your eyes now, pull your head back slightly while still looking into your own eyes (this will help your lids relax and slightly close without any wrinckles) now take the liquid eye liner tip and start from the inside of your lid if you're a biginner, do not move your hand instead rotate your head, this way you're cleanly applying the ink onto your lid, instead of a messy wiggly line done by most shakey hands apply until it is halfway across the top now take the end of the brush and plase it at the other end of your upper lid, then rotate your head the oppisite dirrection NOTE: remember to keep your head stightly tilted back to help you upper eyelids relax, and keep focus onto your own eyes, so your eyeball can smoothly move from side to side as your head rotates Hope thats clear enough for you ^_^

Yeah... Getting eyeliner in your eye stings a bit, but as someone who wears a whole lot of eyeliner on a daily basis, I can pretty securely say that it doesn't do any kind of permanent damage aside from looking really creepy and X-Files-y for a bit.

You should use a soft eyeliner, like Almay has some soft ones in their intense i-color collection. I don't put eyeliner on my waterline, I put it right under it, I think it looks better that way and my eyes don't get irritated.

I have a massive blinking problem and my eyes twitch like mad, and so... i don't wear eyeliner!
Liquid though, has been the easiest for attempts, i think the stick ones just made me feel like i would poke my eye out.... but since I don't wear makeup unless it's a special occasion, i focused on eyeshadow application. I might try again for the upcoming Anime North but I don't think it would make that big a difference if i was using black/dark grey eyeshadow anyways. I can't even let other people put it on me, i twitch like a fish on land. Last edited by DireKitty : 04-18-2008 at 08:10 PM. |

I really learned the hard way to put eyeliner. Just very slowly apply it onto the lower lid. I usually pull my skin down away from my JUST a tad to prevent big pokage. Slowly go back and forth on the tip of the lid. Depending on the quality of the eyeliner, it might be either first go on light or go on dark. If it's light, just keep going back and forth until it's the kind you want. Some brands aren't really dark enough to get that 'deep' black, so you might have to burn the tip of the eyeliner, let it dry , then apply.

Well, it took me a while to learn how to do it buuuut, I found that the easiest way to do it is with a WIDE tipped pencil. Yes, you read right.
A wide tipped pencil is much more comfortable, because you have more surface area to work with, so you don't have to worry about having the liner pencil real close to your eye like with a thin one. Also, using the 'creamy' twist stick kinds is also good. They're not hard and poky like how a lot of the pencil ones are. Something I find is good to do when you're first learning is to pull your bottom lid as far down as you can without hurting yourself. This will keep it farther from your eye so you won't be so scared of poking it. n___n

This happens to me sometimes. You just have to learn what kinds work with you and what kinds don't. Do you have make-up remover? Because sometimes if you sleep with it on, it can get into your eye and irritate it, it's always best to remove all your make-up before you go to sleep.
