Steampunk Costume?
Hey guys!
So I've been dead set on creating a Steampunk character to costume as, but I cant think up a profession for her! I've come up with a few, but I need ideas from you guys. What is something you've like to see? A Steampunk profession that's not too overused (like an 'inventor' or something), be as original as possible, please! I'm counting on you! :3 Here are some of my ideas, Audiographer Sniper Botanist/Biologist (It would need a cooler, more steampunkish name if I went with this one, like: exobotinist or something.) Courier/Messanger (Again, would need a more Victorian name) ect. <3

A botanist would be unique. You'd have reason to wear goggles with magnifying attachments and you could carry around vials with partially grown plants in them. The outfit would probably be a little messy from gardening/being in the woods. I could see it maybe with a skirt pulled up into tiers over a pair of knee high pants. Maybe a "shelf" at the hip to serve as a vial holder (serving to keep them visible as well.)
>>; that's just a basic idea though... |

As far as I know for Steampunk Costumes, these guys are the Supreme Authority!! They even host Steampunk panels at different conventions.

black smith Victorian working man or woman clothing leather aperion, hammer, tongs. to add steam punk to it may be a clock work arm, or just fancy goggles.

how about demolitions expert?
make alot of sweet steampunk bomb type devices. and having a nice brass pick-axe would be cool. but then you can also make some cool punk-prosthetic replacement thingys for all the parts you blew off during apprenticeship. and you could also use it as an excuse to wear a sweet leather cap. |

Botanist is so far the most original, as long as you carry a small plant in a jar with you
![]() Other options could be: Airship technician Sky pirate Mad scientist assistant OR experiment Nurse Blacksmith Archaologist Monster hunter weapon specialist Vampire killer Occultist And so on... Endless options I know. The only limit is your imagination. ![]() |

This kind of reminds me of an outfit I've seen in Second Life. Its an interesting outfit with a heavy steampunk flair.
http://bp0.blogger.com/_FwWKEyGmP-c/...he+rainbow.jpg http://bp1.blogger.com/_FwWKEyGmP-c/...+the+Light.jpg It looks like a type or aeronaut in a way, and has lot of little pouches and accessories like a map, candle in a lanten, oil can, wrenches. Its very steampunky imo. Last edited by Bagu : 06-11-2008 at 06:54 PM. |

My SteamPunk persona's actually a... dentist. *blush* Well... more so a doctor, but he just seems more... dentist-y. Pic: http://lady-bealzabub.deviantart.com...Sheet-88426363
But at least I get a giant drill... *evil laugh*

heyyy that dentist one looks pretty awesome
yesh i too am looking for information im coming up a bit short though so i feel your pain. hmm a bartender would be kind of random, a photographer but if you want to think completely outside of the box a botonist would be pretty cool too intresting to see *curious* my steampunk character or characters are part of a crew of sky pirates, my main character started out as a librarian so shes the historian/navigator/achreologist shes losing her sight so she has this cane with a bionic mono goggle on it.....its still in development

@ Ichigo-chan7 - Thanks. ^^; I love designing stuff... and SteamPunk suits my personal style for some reason...
I'm liking the idea of the botanist though. (Makes me want to do another Steampunk character based of off a certain musical...) EDIT: I found a Character Class/Profession Generator with a steampunk setting. http://www.seventhsanctum.com/genera...?Genname=class

Steampunk is teh awesome
![]() I've dressed up as an Audiologist before- my partner went as a photographer- or as he put it, 'an Image Chronicler'- see my profile if you want a peek lol XD. I had a blast making bit and parts for my stereo speakers and so on, and although ours was still pretty tame [we had to go representing a radio show] it is a total blast to dress up steampunk, you'll have alot of fun! Other than 'image chronicler' and audiologist, some ideas that we had were: -Runner boy/girl [or Steamboy/Steamgirl]: Picture dirtied and ripped trousers, a big messenger bag, goggles, and big boots. Big gloves for carrying things, and an emblem on a vest or something to represent the company you work for. -Skyship Mechanic: Pretty easy to picture- messy hair and dirt on face, big brown overalls, rags in the pockets, big gloves, bunches of gears on a chain as a sling bag, a wrench, tools.... -Skyship Mercenary Airplane cap, goggles, and slings of gun ammunition. Big guns. Lots of weapons strapped on. First line of hired defense. -Pirate Elite: Think upper class, posh kinda dude/dudette. Pants and a suit, gears everywhere, gold monocle. For the girl, a dress with gold gears and weapons hidden up the sleeves. Hey, even mudane jobs can sound cool if you give em good names and costumes. Best of luck

I've been looking at getting into Steampunk and have an idea in my head that I don't think has been done before. However this will require some custom made gadgets made, are there places that take commissions for such things?
