Travel Caravans
Hey everyone! Hope you're all getting excited for Otakuthon!
One thing I thought might be fun to organize is travel caravans. Montreal can be a pretty hectic place, especially at night and during festival season. If you don't know French, it gets even scarier. So I'm proposing that people who are coming from out of town write down your arrival schedule here (how you're getting here, what time and day you're coming in and where you're headed afterwards). Then some one that knows the town can say, "Hey, I can meet you there and help you get to where you're going!" Simple as that. That way you don't have to worry about navigating the metro/bus/streets alone. Any takers? |

However I'm not sure how wise it is for a young person, (especially if they are travelling alone), to disclose all their detailed travel plans on an open forum such as this.I hope too many people won't be frightend off by you saying Montreal is a scary place. To be quite honest it's usually quite easy to find someone who speaks english, especially in Montreal. ^_^ Also, the Venue and hotels for Otakuthon are in a really good area to find your way around in for first time visitors. ![]()

As a former Montrealer, let me add my assurance to anyone coming to Otakuthon from out of town, the city is awsome, and in the downtown area you are sure to find people who speak english. Rest assured, you are going to have an awsome time.
I can't wait for the Con...looking forwad to see fammiliar faces and taking some cosplay photos around the downtown and old Montreal areas. |

You're comments would be so much more reassuring, if they weren't accompanied by a picture of you licking a knife. ;D ~heh.

I'll have to agree with everyone here. Though it's a neat idea, there isn't much of a need. I lived in Quebec for 12 years myself, and no matter where I lived, there was never a problem finding anyone who spoke English (I grew up in a mostly English area, hence why it is my strongest language). Downtown Montreal especially, they're very much used to tourists and can understand English pretty well.
I am very much excited to be going back to Montreal again though It'll always be home to me, so it'll be nice to go for the con. |
