Bloodying a Lolita Dress?

So I'm planning on playing an original character. She wears a Babyssb dress, and it's in an ivory color.

So I'm clear, I'm setting myself back $500 for this dress. In her story, she is putting her dress through torture. Crawling in dirt, doused in rain, cut, bruised, covered in blood. So how can I do so successfully on my first try, so I don't end up having to order this very expensive dress twice?

If you guys can link me somewhere, refer me to a past, or involving thread. That'd be wonderful. Or if you have tips of your own. I've got pics of it if you'd like to see them, just ask. I just don't want to go through the effort, if I end up ridding of my thread.

Heh.

Thanks,

HEART

You've got some guts! There are some tutorials in this thread: http://community.livejournal.com/egl/4822344.html Also, from one post I read, theater/stage blood works, not the cheap stuff from costume stores, but actual professional stuff, and supposedly washes right out.

I totally agree with this comment. Either the Elizabeth OP or the Momo dress from Shimotsuma Monogatari could possibly cost this much.

If I were you I wouldn't do it just because I'm super cautious. If anything, buy another cheaper dress from Anna House or from Inthestarlight (I'm sure if you told them the story they might help a little bit).

Or if you really want to do it, go to a professional theater store and buy fake blood.

I agree with the above.

anna house has some pretty exquisite dresses that will probably look just as good, and will cost you about 2-300$ less. and it wont be as big of a deal if you mess up the blood.

It's product number 131344. Yeah, very pricey. Though price is no problem for me. If I could pay for somebody proffessional, I would. Though I really would enjoy doing so myself, if I could. Thanks Meiki for your wonderful link. So much yummy sounding blood.

No problem, I figure it's your money to spend, and if you're really committed to the idea, then go right ahead! I'd love to see results, guro-loli isn't done with brand too often.

One suggestion would be to try whatever methods you're going to use on a piece of throwaway scrap fabric first. That way, you'll know what to expect befor you hit your dress with it. I don't know what your dress is made of, but it shouldn't be too hard to find a similar piece of fabric for testing purposes. You'll be able to see how it tears and how it takes various stains.

Good luck!

Good idea! I found samples from Fabric.com Baby used for my desired dress. So hopefully I can do some grocery shopping for Meiki's wonderful link of blood recipes.

Thanks everybody!

Although I'm kinda sad that such a pretty dress is going to be altered in like this, I think you're totally awesome for doing this. When done right and tastefully, I love Guro-loli.
My only suggestion to you is to test everything out before hand so you get no surprises, and to not overdo the effects. Remember, more is less sometimes.

If the dress is washable (doubt it) I recommend red food colouring as it looks like blood and will wash off.

Thanks so much everybody, your all very kind, and all very helpful!

I could end up using your ideas for Rose's cos from SH, as well.

Thanks again. When I can, I'll show pics of my progress!

I made fake blood once with a recipe similar to the one in the link Meiki posted. You can also add a little bit of chocolate syrup to make the red a little more brownish.

Man, you're lucky to be able to spend so much money on a dress just to mess it up! I can't even afford to wear Baby. :/
