Miku and Luka originated the song and Yunomi authored the original design... so in that case (and in the case of Len and Rin's white designs, also a Yunomi original) ~ the magnet design is really quite set in stone. If you divert too much from the original design, people will notice.

Most of the many reinterpretations are either closet cosplays with any old black dress or sweatshop costume makers being lazy with references. A few older cosplays may also have been made when there was only a waist-up bust shot reference available.

There is a ton of variation for all of the other characters though ~ since most versions for other characters are spin-offs attatched to head/bust shots only You really have no choice but to make it up the waist-down or choose a random fanartist to make it up from the waist-down for you ^^

If you're going to play ~ keep it to small things like the footwear (no official design), ribbon design, glove length/cut, acessories and tights

Magnets with just any black dress, no waist-ribbons, straight wigs or lazy headphones really kill the look T.T

Can someone please give me a full BIG picture of Kagamine Rin? I'm going to do the LED things on her arm warmers.

Rin's default armwarmers have nothing but light-up aqua/green strips.

ACT 2 have light blue panels with mixers on them. There isn't any color-variation.

Does anyone have a good reference for the design on Luka's skirt? I'm half way though embroidering it, but her box art doesn't have a clear enough view for me. >_<

Hey everyone ^.^
So, my sister and I have decided that we're gonna do Vocaloids for our upcoming con (Well, I'm doing Miku, and she's doing Neru Akita, a fanmade vocaloid, I believe)
So, I decided to go ahead and buy this wig I would have liked to buy a normal Miku wig, like the lovely ones I saw there last year, but they were all out, and the other Miku wig they had a looked a bit thin to me...
Anyway, do you think the wavy wig will really matter, or if I should attempt to straighten it...?

Also, I was talking to my sister, and she wants a shiny fabric for her skirt. When I asked her what she had in mind, she said pleather. In the end, the one who will probably doing most of the sewing out of the two of us is me (Though, our grandma is gonna help out, because... my sewing machine dislikes me >>; ) I've never worked with pleather before, and I doubt my grandma has either.
So, do you guys think that the pleather would look okay, or if it would be too difficult to work with? (And can pleather be pleated...?)

@Celcia: no prob =) I'm here to help XD
yeah in one of Kiratsukai's VOCALOID bible translations (I'm addicted to her translations!!!~ XD) the artist said she based all her outfit off of brass and woodwind instruments and that the motif along her skirt was a clarinet =P

Please do. They're there to be linked. Don't feel like you're stepping on anyone's toes for doing so

@crystaldragon

I don't think the wavy style will really matter. I've seen several Miku PVs where she has wavy hair in her official outfit. XD But if you really want to straighten it, you can use a steamer or the hot water technique.

instead of just plugging in a battery pack add this
http://www.instructables.com/id/A-we...thout-a-micro/
(thats mainly what i did inside my headphones and they look awesome. depending on the voltage it will pick up sounds at different levels and translate it into current to turn the lights on and off.

Vocaloid Kaito; Alice Human Sacrifice Outfit. Help?

Doing an alt Kaito outfit.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1goUM...eature=related

It's going to be for Alice Human Sacrifice, but as the original costume is quite plain I'm going design something myself based on a few pieces of Japanese fan art for the song.

Using the same 'Mad Hatter' tophat and suit motif, keeping elements from the original videos such as sheet music (for the song itself) on parchment paper, a rose on my chest, temple or eye (if I find out how to adhere it properly) with some fancy blood work dripping out from underneath, blue bow tie underneath the scarf and a blue diamond on my hand, might make a doll version of 'the dream'. This should make it recognizable on top of the whole Wonderland feel to it (and if not, anyone would know who I am anyway due to blue nails/hair/scarf/theme/etc).

Does anyone have any idea or something interesting I could add to the outfit or props, or just an opinion on this idea in general? Is it a bad idea? If not a might just resort to Imitation Black or Cantarella, but I thought this would be fun to make (especially since I could probably just alter a lot of clothing as I'm short on time) and to wear.

By the way, some of said fan art;

Thanks!

Hahahahahahahaha, it seems like I'm going to make both of Kagamine Rin's versions.
The default one and the Synchronicity one.
I better start sewing now, since it will take a long time to sew (due to no sewing skills, no sewing machine adn I'm borrowing one, no LEN!)
Need to start before Anime Evolution here in B.C.! woooot!

@kiratsukai: OMG Your translations helped me alot! Now I can do default Rin!

Gack! Almost forgot, the thing on Rin's arm warmers are mixers right? I should make in time with my uncle who's good at making electronic stuff.
Do anyone of you know what kind of version is this: http://i43.tinypic.com/fdxb8x.png
The artist made a mistake on the eye colour. But I like this version. Long haired Rin looks moeeee~~
