Can silk get wet?

I bought some shear striped fabric off eBay for details on a swimsuit (and a wrap skirt) for someone and it just occured to me the material is silk...Is it safe to use on a swimsuit? I don't want it falling apart on her or anything lol Thanks in advance

Sure. Just pre-wash it like any other fabric so it won't shrink.

I would test on it first because some silks can get water stains

I would assume that if the whole thing had water stains then the 'stain' wouldn't make a difference, ne?

yeah, just be careful if you iron it. Hang dry and steam two best ways to get it clean (or lay flat :P)

It can discolour the fabric. Kinda like this (even though I know it's not fabric it's the same idea)

Silk clothes usually have that 'dry clean only' tag on them but I've washed them in cold water before and it was fine.
