Sewing for Cosplay panels

So, I heard from the Panel Coordinator, and my sewing panels have been scheduled for, *ahem* 8am Saturday and 8am Sunday. *sigh* Officially, they are sewing basics (Saturday) and altering commercial patterns (Sunday). Given the crack-of-dawn time-slot though, I seriously doubt that I am going to have much (any?) turnout. Rather than do a presentation for an empty room, I thought I'd toss out the idea of having costume consultations or critiques. So if there is anyone out there (who doesn't like to sleep or eat breakfast) and would be interested in meeting for some one-on-one sewing help, they can stop by the panel room. I'll be happy to talk with you and answer questions about whatever you want related to sewing for cosplay.

oh, I'm so sorry your panels were slotted so early! I'd have loved to come to them. I might try to show up anyway though. Its always fun to toss around ideas for costume construction on future projects, and maybe I could help you advise others too if you want.

I would welcome both your company and your help!

It is a really, uh, unfortunate time. I ran the beginner's panel at CCon last year on Sunday afternnoon and got a good turn out even though I was up against Cosplay Chess. Perhaps it was a mistake to say that I was available "anytime". I don't mind being there early, but I just don't think I'm going to have anyone else there. ): Oh well.

But I love to talk about costumes so if even one or two people stop by it will be fun. I will have the room until 9:30, so maybe a few early risers will stop by towards the end.

Saturday, I may be turning myself blue. But Sunday shouldn't be a problem. Especially since I consider altering patterns to be one of my weaker points. That and wigs.

I'd love to get into technical details, like embroidery machines and sergers and such.

Oh these sound like panels I'd be interested in coming too. I'm usually no good in the morning especially at cons but I'll make an attempt to come, even if it is just for critique. Sorry they scheduled your panels so early. I hope you get a good turnout nonetheless!

8am for panels? Wow that is early. But I'll still come by. I get up at 7 am everyday anyways so it won't be a problem for me.

Hmm I have to drive to the con everyday, so I'm not sure if I can get there that early. ;_; But your panels sound quite interesting and I'm going to try to plan to show up for one, now that I know that these are gonna be going on!

Oh, and by the way, I think it's very nice of you to offer to give individual consultations. I hope a good number of people show up, despite the time slot. ^_^

Thanks guys! I won't hold you to it though in case you do find that you need an extra hour of sleep! I'll be happy even if it's just a few of us regulars sitting around chatting. Especially since Stardust and I have only had about 30 seconds of interaction IRL! I'll try to find a nearby Dunkin and pickup a box of Joe.

Crazy, I'm definitely bringing at least my smaller machine with me as well as my computer which has all the software. I'll toss in a few hoops and stabilizers as well and would be more than happy to do an embroidery demo for you. I know that you're in the market for a machine.

Well, if you're the only one there, we can work on whatever you want! XD

But seriously - or rather, more seriously - when I've done panels before, I've had oh, 10-50 people depending on the size of the con. That's really too large to do any real hands-on sewing so normally I do a powerpoint presentation with sewing props, a few really simple demos and field questions. Unlike Majik's plushy workshop, I don't bring anything prepared to sew though I do bring my basic sewing equipment and some basic fabrics. If you are having a particular problem with something - either a costume that you are working on something you want to do in the future - stop by. Bring your ideas and a few reference pictures (I'll have my computer, so they can be on a CD or flash drive). We can talk about it and I can tell you how I would go about it, what parts I think might give you problems and possible solutions. If you are completely new to sewing, I can give you an intro lesson on how to use a machine and you can test drive mine.

Or you can bring a WIP or something you're planning and we can go over it with who ever else shows up.
