It does suck... Hopefully they can find a new location for that weekend or else I'm kinda SOL for that con this year. It makes me sad...

For anyone in the Vancouver area at that time, if you live there or you are going up there anyways:

http://animeevolution.net/index.php?topic=8275.0

That thread was just started. Hopefully something will get organized for this meetup, or better yet, AE finds a new location for the same weekend.

I am like, hopeing against all hope they pull together and find a suitable location on the same weekend.

It will be great if they do, but still, my heart kinda breaks when I think of AE with no pond, no outdoor stage, no stone steps ;_;

Thanks for that link Puckcc!! What a great rag-tag idea, I love it.

I sure hope they find a new venue for the same weekend, else I'm screwed out of 300.00 for my plane ticket. -_- 'Mini-con' would NOT be worth coming all the way there for...

Oh come now, if you've already got the ticket, might as well use it for whatever you can get - no point in just throwing $300 out the window!

That said, a Mini-Con would definitely not be the same as AE....and with this being my first AE, I was really looking forwards to all the places described above!

Well, from what I've been reading, it sounds like they're looking for a different venue on the same weekend.

With our sincere apologies, we regret to inform you that the Anime Evolution Convention scheduled for Aug 22 – 24 has been postponed.

The Convention has been postponed due to a conflict with an SFU event as such we are unable to proceed with our event, at our current venue on our scheduled dates.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. We intend to reschedule the Anime Evolution Convention to a later date; at which time we will update you with full details, when they become available.

We appreciate your patience during this time.

For further questions and concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Katina Stachura, Convention Secretary, at secretary@animeevolution.com.

Quick information

- The staff are currently looking into alternate venues. If you have a suggestion for alternate venues we would like to hear about it in this thread: http://animeevolution.net/index.php?topic=8271.0
- Refunds will be organized upon confirmation of the new venue and/or new date.
- The status of the con is postponed until the above is sorted out.
- Please do not attack SFU nor the AE Staff. Pointing fingers, attacking and insulting helps nothing but worsen the situation.
- A somewhat better summary: http://animeevolution.net/index.php?topic=8263.msg252004#msg252004

So sad...given that I've been going to AE since 2004. Honestly, I'm glad it was told now and not one week before the con was about to start. I hope whatever happens, happens for a good reason. I've been praying each night for something.

I just recieved this email a sec ago.

It is with AE 2008's sincerest apologies that I regret to inform you that the Anime Evolution convention scheduled for August 22-24 has been postponed.

This was result of miscommunication between the AE planning committee and Simon Fraser University. When the miscommunication was discovered, both groups worked long and hard to rectify the mistake. However, due to other events being held at SFU, and renovations being done to the larger rooms at the school, it was thought that the university could not cope with an event the size of AE. As a result, it was decided that AE 2008 could not be held at SFU this year.

We thank SFU and its staff for all of their support over the past five years. It has been a great experience working with the university. Their help has enabled us to become an event worthy of hosting over 3000 people.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. The AE 2008 planning committee is currently working hard to seek out an alternate venue with the current dates. If we are able to do so, we will not give out refunds except on a case-by-case basis.

However, if the convention is rescheduled to a later date, we will set up a refund processing system for pre-registered attendees. Instructions regarding this system will be sent out in an email to those attendees.

We appreciate your patience during this time.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact Katina Strachura, Convention Secretary at secretary@animeevolution.com. We will try to answer all of them as quickly as we can.
