AnimeFest Ani-Idol 2008

Hiya!

Keiichi.net Anime Radio, Mu Epsilon Kappa UNT Anime Club, and AnimeFest present:

Ani-Idol!

Warm up those vocal cords! We want to see you participate in one of the biggest events at AnimeFest!

Contestants will sing their favorite anime/gaming/J-music song to a panel of judges and compete for prizes and glory!

Spread the word and get ready to sing!

AnimeFest Ani-Idol Rules 2008

Presented by:
Keiichi.net Anime Radio
Mu Epsilon Kappa UNT Anime Club

General Rules

1. The contest is open to all registered convention attendees. You must have a valid attending member badge for the days of the contest. There is no additional cost to register for the contest.

2. No professional vocalists may enter the Ani-Idol competition. If you are found out to be a professional, you will be disqualified. A “professional” is monetarily compensated for his or her work as a singer or actor.

3. Cosplay is allowed at the event but is not required.

4. The contest will be split into three parts: Audition, Second Round, and Finals. In order to compete, you must be able to attend all three rounds. If you are in multiple events, we will try our best to work with you. Contestants are not required to stay the entire time, and are welcome to leave if they need to run to another event. We will also bump up contestants if they need to be somewhere else at a certain time. The rounds will be scheduled for Saturday and Sunday as follows:
Audition - Saturday 11am-1pm
Second Round - Sunday 10:30am - 12:30pm
Finals - Sunday 5pm - 7pm

5. Contestants must be at least 13 years old.

6. Sign-Ups for the Audition will be at the Keiichi.net Anime Radio and Mu Epsilon Kappa booth beginning Friday and will continue until an hour before Auditions. Sign-up will then move to outside the panel room where the contest will be held.

7. Check-In for Auditions will begin one hour before the contest. You must be present at the contest when it begins. If your name is called and you are not there, you will be passed over. If you are late and wish to sign-up for the audition, we will put you in if time permits. Those who sign-up in advance have top priority.

8. Contestants will be required to bring your own music for the contest. Music must be on a CD and labeled clearly with song name and track number. We do not want contestants to get on stage and have the wrong song play. Triple check the CD to make sure it works. We can also accept USB drives.

9. Song choices for each round should be at least 2 minutes in length and not exceed 5 minutes.

10. Duets/groups are perfectly fine, however, understand that we might not have prizes for everyone in the group. Also, we might only have 2 mics, so you will have to adjust to that if you are in a group. Also, if the duet/groups makes it past Auditions, they MUST attend the other rounds with the same partner/group members.

Audition Rules

1. When you sign-up for auditions you must make a final decision on your song choice. You may not change your song once check-in is open an hour before the Audition Round. When you sign-up you will be required to provide your name, song choice, and series/artist it is from.

2. Song choices for this round must be from an anime or video game that originates from Japan. It can be an opening or ending song. Insert and ‘image’ songs are also allowed.

3. Be prepared to sing the entire song. However, depending on the number of contestants, songs may be cut down. Contestants will be informed before the contest how much they will be singing for the audition.

4. Songs for this round will not be required to be karaoke/instrumental tracks. Contestants may bring karaoke tracks if they so desire. Contestants may also sing a capella.

5. Contestants will be allowed to bring lyric sheets with them for this round.

6. Songs may be in any language for this round.

7. Winners of this round will be announced at the end of the event. Winners will also be posted at the Keiichi.net Anime Radio and Mu Epsilon Kappa booths. If a contestant is chosen to advance to the next round they must be available for the second round of the contest which takes place the next day.

Second Round Rules

1. Contestants who advance to the Second Round may sign-in/check-in an hour before the Second Round begins. Contestants must be prepared to make a final decision on song choice when they sign-in/check-In. Sign-in/check-in will take place outside or near the panel room where the Second Round will be held. Please refer to the AnimeFest schedule for location and time.

2. The songs chosen for this round must abide by a few rules. Songs from J-Dorama and live action movies, even if based on an anime, are acceptable for this round. Songs from live stage versions of an anime series are also acceptable. Music from video games that originate from Japan are also acceptable. Songs must be in any language other than English for this round. Songs may have English phrases, but the song must be at least 75% in a different language.

3. Contestants must be prepared to sing the entire song.

4. Songs for this round will not be required to be karaoke/instrumental tracks. Contestants may bring karaoke tracks if they so desire. Contestants may also sing a capella.

5. Contestants may use lyric sheets for this round if they so choose. Points will not be deducted for use of lyrics. However, those with memorized songs will receive more points.

6. Winners for this round will be announced at the end of the event.

Final Round Rules

1. Contestants who advance to the Final Round may sign-in/check-in an hour before the Second Round begins. Contestants must be prepared to make a final decision on song choice when they sign-in/Check-In. Sign-in/check-in will take place outside or near the panel room where the Final Round will be held. Please refer to the AnimeFest schedule for location and time.

2. Contestants may choose any song for this round.

3. Contestants will be required to sing the entire song.

4. Songs for this round are not required to have a karaoke/instrumental track or be sung a capella. Contestants will receive a higher score if they do use a karaoke track.

5. Contestants may use lyrics sheets for this round. However, it will effect their score. Songs that are memorized will receive a higher score.

6. Songs must be in any language other than English for this round. Songs may have English phrases, but the song must be at least 50% in a different language.

7. In the event of a tie, contestants will have a ‘sing-off’. Contestants will choose a new song, either a song sung in a previous round or a new song, and sing it for the judges.

8. The winner for this round will be crowned AnimeFest Ani-Idol 2008.

Judges and Judging

Contestants will be assigned a numerical score from 1-10 by each judge based on vocal/singing performance, showmanship/presentation and stage appeal. The scores from each judge are then tallied to come up with a total score for the contestant. The winners will be determined by the total sum of their scores.

All decisions made by the judges are final.

In each round judges will receive a judge sheet for each contestant. Along with scoring area, there will be areas for judges to write down constructive criticism/suggestions, and anything else they feel is helpful. After each round is over and judging is complete, contestants can pick up their sheets at the Keiichi.net booth to keep.

Additional Information

During the contest, no interaction with the MC is allowed. Contestants may not touch or approach the judges' table. Contestants may not go into the audience or use an audience member in their act. Actions that encourage general audience participation as a whole (such as asking the crowd to clap) are okay.

All aspects of the act, including, but not limited to: costume, conduct on stage, and song lyrics, are to abide by no worse than a PG-13 standard.

The only persons allowed in the performing area are the MC, AnimeFest staff, Keiichi.net Anime Radio staff, Mu Epsilon Kappa staff, convention special guests, judges, and contestants.

Decisions made by Keiichi.net Anime Radio, Mu Epsilon Kappa or AnimeFest are final and non-negotiable.

All rules for Ani-Idol Contest are subject to change without notice. While we attempt to keep you up to date of any changes via the AnimeFest website, these changes may occur at any time.

For ALL questions, suggestions, issues and/or requests for confirmation regarding Ani-Idol, please contact ChibiBritt (chibibritt@gmail.com) or through PM or post in the forums.

I'm confused. For the second round, are we allowed to sing songs that are NOT from Japan? (i.e., in Swedish or French or...) I have a song in mind that is relevant to the anime fan community, but is not in Japanese. Is this song okay for the second round?

I think you're the person that emailed me about Carmeldanssen and I replied. But for those who have a similar question....

The entire contest revolves around music from Japan in one way shape or form. Carmelldansen, although popular with the anime community, is not from anime, J-music, or any game that I am aware of and therefore would not be acceptable.

Keep in mind I will probably be pretty open minded about song choices, but everything must be from Japan.
