Leek prop

I searched this, and can't believe the question has not already been asked!

How would I go about making a big ol' leek prop?
(... think http://www.leekspin.com/ )

It is for my Miku Hatsune costume. Here is Miku's version of Levan Polkka: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5kDcIJ9i_A

What I would like to end up with is a fairly realistic looking leek that is quite over sized.
I know there is one out there available to buy, but I think it looks silly and floppy, so forget that one.
And yes, I have considered buying a real leek to use for the day, but I don't know how perky it would be by the time the afternoon rolls around, and besides, I don't want to waste food like that.

Any suggestions would be appreciated ^_^

Refrence images ... lol

Darn XD I remembered the rubber leek when I saw your topic...

But just as a note, leeks are fairly hardy At least the ones we grew were >.> I carried one around all day and it was still fresh enough to crack clean in half over someone's head at the end of the day (PS: This is not advisable)

Dirty lies. I, personally, advise it.

You can get the really -big- leeks at Asian markets. At least that's where I usually see them.
Workin' on:
Tom Petty [Final Fantasy XV] (9%)
Bondage Finch [Bondage Finch Adventures] (12%)
Your Mother [Debbie Does Dallas XXIII] (8%)

I thought of that, but the leek won't start to smell weird after a while will it? Because that would be slightly horrible ^^;

i have an idea,, take some psoter board roll is it in to a cilinder the size you want the leek, and glue it closed cut some slits along the top of the cilinder and bend than back abit for the leafs, put abit if hot glue on the other end to round it out alittle for the blub, with a good paint job and abit of clear coat it would be passilbe as a leek.

Yes i used a real leek for a one day con. it did start to smell oniony but it wasn't that bad. it last super long throughout the day plus it has many layers so if drop yo can peel some off and it will look great still
