It really does suck and I totally believe what you just said but sadly... not everyone thinks like that.
Very awesome that you know her! She is so sweet. I really enjoyed working with her to make her costumes. I'm actually looking for the right fabric to redo the jacket for her Mirror Spirit and working on a different way for the hair sticks to stay in her hair for Ranmao. I loved getting to make Ranmao's two kimono and that crazy obi. And she looks beautiful in the costume.

Yeah, it does suck...but I always think that if you are selling something, that puts you in the service business, and you should do whatever it takes to service your customers. Maybe I'm just a bit naive or something, but I don't think so. That or I just like being right^^

finding a nice royal blue fabric color is very hard. i didn't realize just how bright the blue was... i always thought it leaned a little more to the darker side. so instead of blue, i opted for a dark red/gold color scheme instead.

i figure it still works since ciel was shown wearing a dark red color before and red is definitely a color elizabeth would wear (not only that but she's got this whole rose motif going on.) but now i'm just kind of stuck on the corset color. would having a dark red corset be weird or look bad? i figure it'd be okay (since technically kuroshitsuji victorian isn't really historically accurate.) or would "breaking the rules" be bad... oh the things i'm worrying myself over. *sigh....

p.s. buying the trim for this cosplay is ridiculous. definitely my most expensive cosplay to date....

Yeah, a lot of blue fabrics can be brighter than you think. That's why my friend and I went with a good navy for her Ciel costume.

For Lizzie's corset, you could do the dark red, or you could do a black one. Though most women actually usually just wore a white, or drab, corset under their clothes. But like you said, Kuroshitsuji isn't exactly 100% accurate to the true Victorian aesthetic, so you have some leeway with what you do.

Whew, I just read through all 354 pages of this thread. I found a lot of helpful tips and so many beautiful costumes. It makes me wish I could sew that well. Sometime next year I'm going to be cosplaying as Ciel. I'm going to do his newspaper boy outfit, the newest one in the manga and another, which I haven't really decided on yet.

Currently I'm working on Undertaker for halloween. I've gotten the mock up done on one coat and I'm hoping to get the second one done this weekend. After I get a rotary cutter. I hate trying to cut around those tiny little pattern lines with sciccors. I'm always afraid I'll cut something I shouldn't.

I saw your pics in your costume list. They look pretty good to me, so I wouldn't be too nervous.

Ahh, thank you so much~ ^//^ It did turn out well..~
Even if my stockings were around my knees half the time (they're supposed to be thigh-highs) because they hate me with passion....most pictures did turn out well, and quite a few were taken of me! (I still haven't seen those, but eventually...~) I really like how it turned out, and as soon as I can find a way to fix the stockings, I'll wear Alois at the drop of a hat. P:
It makes me want to cosplay another version of him about right now, but I now have a Grell to work on because stupid me can't resist wigs. XD Maybe...I'll just keep him in the bag until I get around to getting materials to fix him...yeah. Then I'll never do it. XD Oh well, whenever I have money, but I guess for now I'll just get enough to do casual and then work on my others. He can wait. xP

You need a FB account to see them, though...at least I think. You can try, but... Sorry, I don't have the time or patience to upload them to DA right now or I would. ))

Try stocking garters? Or there's a special type of tape that models use to stick clothes to their bodies on the runway so there's not a 'wardrobe malfunction' if they're wearing loose and revealing outfits. I believe it's called tuck tape, but I'm not 100% sure. You can probably use something like that on the stockings.

Do they have a lace top? I got some like those and that happened to me. Someone told me that's typical of the lacy kind. I also have some without the lace and they worked fine. But one of them got a run in them so I needed to get another pair. Alois' boots cover the run but I also use them for Baby Doll and it would be visable then. I just got another pair at Hot Topic but I haven't worn them yet, so I don't know if they'll stay up.

@.PapercutSenvy.: If you are having trouble with your stockings staying up, you should get some of the roll-on adhesive that keeps them up. My friend and I use it all the time for stockings, gloves, sleeves that aren't attached to tops...all sorts of stuff.

You can get it here: http://www.sockdreams.com/products/a...-body-adhesive

Target sells it, it's double sided fashion tape. It's in the pantyhose section and comes on a scotch-tape type of dispenser. Like $7, works great! I use it to keep Envy's shorts from sliding too low on my leg.

Hello everyone!

I'd like to cosplay Madame Red, but I would much prefer if I could make it instead of buying it from someplace. You never know what you're going to get sometimes and I figured it'd be a tad bit cheaper than the 100-115 dollars (plus who-knows-how-much shipping) that I've been seeing online.

I was wondering if anyone has patterns for her (first, I think?) dress. The one with the vest, I believe. It'd be much appreciated. I admit that I'm rather a novice sewer and what I *do* know is pretty much self-taught, but my friend's Grandma is seamstress so I'm sure she could help me out when I need it. (though feel free to give tips, I'm open to learning anything I can)

My Madam Red costume cost me upwards of $250 to make, but I did her full outfit with the bustle skirt, overskirt, jacket, shirt, hat, bustle pillow, petticoat, corset, wig, boots, gloves...yeah, it was intensive. I spent 75 hours make it because I decided to make it a mixture of historical accuracy and manga accuracy. So be ready to cost a little more than you might expect.

Do you have a picture of the exact one you want to make though? That would help with getting some better help on patterns and all. I used Truly Victorian patterns for most of my costume, but if you are wanting the one I am thinking of, then those probably won't work. But again, if you could link a picture of the exact one you want to do, we could definitely give you some assistance.
