Help with making ponytail on wig?
Hello! I'm wondering if anyone knew how to go about making a ponytail out of a long wig? My cousin is planning on cosplaying as Yoko from Gurren Lagann and we're thinking about buying a long wig, but not sure how to go about making the ponytail from it. I found a tutorial on how to make pigtails but not ponytails T.T
Or should we just buy a short red wig and add extensions for the ponytail XD? Thanks! |

There are lots of ways to go about making a ponytail.
1. Stubbing and adding a clip-on or stringfall ponytail. http://www.pettingzoowigs.com/wigtutorial_stubbing.html 2. Beginning with a short wig and buying or making your own clip-on ponytail The eBay seller Cosplaywig makes a Yoko one specifically, you can also make one by buying a Wisp and a pack or two of matching extensions and sew in the longer pieces on the sides, then make your own clip-on to attach. 3. Taking a long wig and using a special technique to pull it up into a high ponytail without having to add extensions. (I'd provide the link but it seems I cannot find it. ): )

Yoko's a tricky one. I would definitely suggest stubbing the wig, like the tutorial in Katsumiyo's first link tells you. Actually, look through the pettingzoowigs forums, and you'll find a LOT of great tutorials and suggestions for wigs.
The big thing you'll have to worry about with a ponytail is that wigs typically aren't meant to be pulled back, and with such a high ponytail, you're probably going to have to get wefts/extensions to glue or sew into the inside of the wig, so that when you pull it back, they cover the sides so you don't see the netting of the wig. I probably didn't explain that right, but I know there's a thread about that in the PZW forums, and I can also draw a diagram for you if you need it. But yeah, with Yoko, you kind of need more of a longish wig anyway, because she's got those long tufts of hair in front of her ears. I suppose you could put wefts in there instead, but if you're just going to stub the wig anyway, it would probably be most useful to get a wig long enough for those tufts of hair, stub it, and then make the ponytail out of wefts.
