KosaiKon trouble

Unfortunately, it looks like KosaiKon 2003 will be forced to cancel. The convention site is looking for $1000 by October 10 and there is no way we could meet that deadline without help. If you would like to help, check out the KosaiKon mailing list at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/KosaiKon/ for details on how to donate.

If anything, we're gonna try to make 2004 happen.

You think maybe it be cheaper at another hotel? If it still on, count me in as a staffer. *joins ML*

Actually, none of the other hotels will have us. They keep saying that we're too large for their rooms. So this is about it for this year. The site is now willing to make a few deals with us, but we really can't do it without donations.....

I wish I could help, but my bills are kicking my arse. I'm really sorry about it. Only think I can do is get staffers.

Something I thought about... This con falls right when Akon does. It's too late to change dates, ain't it...

That is quite a high amount for a first time con - what did you estimate your attendence as?

;_; That would be so sad if you have to cancel! There's so much work going into convention planning that I would hate for it to fall through for you because of financial difficulties... plus, we need the Pennsylvania cons to happen this year!

I estimated our attendance at around 300 - 400.

And yes, this falls during AKon, which is in TX. There aren't many weekends totally open where there isn't any conventions. So I picked a weekend that had a con that wasn't all that close. (I picked the weekend before Jacon announced.)

Probably will have to try finding a sponsor, like MTAC started out with. With the economy, that may be a tough sell. Are there any comic or independently owned video game/record/book/video places around? Chain stores are a no go, but if you can find a local place that has an anime interest you might get sponsorship. If you do get a sponsor, set established limits to what they have influence over.

After we made a break from sponsorship, we had staffers donating their own money to the cache for things - with the possibility of getting paid back if things went well else that money was gone. Depending on what your staff base is, see if staffers are willing to donate $50, $100, or up to the cause. The first years can be pretty lean.

I'm sorry to announce that we have decided to postpone KosaiKon until 2004. Unfortunately, the hotel had taken almost 2 months longer than promised to get the contract to us and there has been little support from the area fanbase. So we are going to regroup, possibly make some changes and take the extra time to make this even better than originally planned.

So, here's to making 2004 happen!

Area fanbase. Which is very small. Trust me, I've looked. >.>;
You may want to try some college anime clubs, namely Drexel and Widener, for help... though, we poor college students can only help so much ^_^;

Bummer! ^^ Well, there is still hope for an excellent debut con next year... best of luck to you! Not having area fanbase would be tough- I think that's one aspect of Tekkoshocon which is working out well. Lots of college kids & other crazy people = good stuff.
