Long Wig Help

Hello all you potentially helpful people! I find myself in a bit of a predicament here. A while ago I purchased a wig that I could use for my Rider (Fate/Stay Night) costume. I either purchased it from Amphigory and got the Enchantment wig or from Cosworx, in which I would have gotten Amanda. Either way, both use Kanekalon fibers for the wigs, so I doubt it really matters.

At first the wig was extremely beautiful and exactly what I needed. Unfortunately, being a long wig, it tangled extremely easily and within a few uses it had turned into pretty much one giant knot that even strangers had no problem telling me looked ugly. So now I ask for your help. I either need advice on how to untangle and straighten a long wig that has pretty much been ruined, or I need to know of a good purple wig that is preferably longer than 40", no bangs, and does not tangle as easily as Kanekalon wigs do.

Search for motions oil sheen (or something like that) in the forums. You should be able to find a thread on how to detangle and kinda protect long wigs with the stuff.

All long hair tangles, unfortunately. There is no long wig that will not tangle badly without constant upkeep; I say this as the owner of very long hair. Most people are not used to dealing with long hair so it is easy to forget about it and end up with terrible tangles that are very difficult to get out.

I second the recommendation of a detangler spray such as Motions Oil Sheen, and you will need LOTS of patience. Start at the bottom, working with a wide-tooth comb or your fingers, and go a tiny section at a time very gently. It will take a long time.

Once your wig is detangled (or if you start over with a new one) you will need to be very vigilant. Spraying with detangler will help prevent tangles, but when wearing your wig you will still need to stop every hour or so to gently comb through the wig (again, with a wide-tooth comb or fingers) and work out any tangles before they get bad. This is a MUST; for very long hair you pretty much have to be finger-combing CONSTANTLY in order to keep it looking smooth all day.

I always recommend that people seriously consider sacrificing a bit of accuracy in length in favour of manageability and affordability. Long hair is a lot of work to maintain if you're not used to it, and unfortunately unlike real hair, wig hair doesn't grow back. Anime characters don't have to worry about tangles on their improbably long hair, but we do, so if you're going to be wearing a wig all day rather just for photoshoots it is a lot less hassle to go with a shorter wig (like say waist-length instead of knee-length).
