Artscape: Not Quite Art (TV show)
Next week Artscape: Not Quite Art (10:00pm Tuesday, 28 Oct 2008, ABC1) will be visiting a Pop Culture convention to meet with "an army of Star Wars characters and anime geeks". The preview showed one male cosplayer as well as a Storm Trooper. As Artscape has been to several parts of Australia I don't know which Supanova is featured, although it's most likely the Sydney convention.

I think i caught a little of it.
It had a big focus on the art side of things. Not much on cosplay. Actually i only saw some in the background XD |

I meant to write back on this, but things slipped... anyway, the Sydney Supanova was the backdrop to the theme of Australian artists exporting their wares overseas, with the focus on an Australian comics artist working on an American comic book, and on Queenie Chan and her work for Tokyo Pop. Also there was a look at Madman's rise from a flat importing anime to a large business importing art house films as well as Japanese popular culture.
Cosplay wasn't a focus of this segment of the programme, but it was interesting to see that the display of costumes appeared to be staged, rather than just background colour. I saw my good friend Anna in the queue and that was cool ![]() Not Quite Art is viewable or downloadable from the ABC website or on ABC IView. Widya Santoso |
