Wow I totally forgot about this thread. Hi guys!
I finished my Princess Tutu Odette tutu. Kind of. I'm going to try and revamp for Otakon...but I'm really happy with it so far!

I just wanted to say that you make a really beautiful Princess Tutu!
I'm not a Princess Tutu cosplayer but I always love to see them.

^Thank you! <3

Thread, live. Princess Tutu needs more love! D:<
So I had so much fun with my Odette tutu that I decided to beg my mom to take me to get some beads after dinner so I can start with the beading on her Rose Adagio tutu! Beading is fun. You can never have too many beads. That's a total lie, but still.

Sakura! I was wondering when you'd finish her! I LOVE it. EEEEEE!

So, I recently started pointe classes, and I also just started re-watching Princess Tutu. I already have my Kraehe costume, but now I wanna make ALL the ballet costumes, including a bunch from the show, a bunch from ballets, and a few odd ideas from my own brain. Too many tutus, too little time!

Blondie: all the tutu info you need is on tutu.com, they have a book and everything. For pointe shoes, you can use rit dye, but sponge it on instead of submerging the shoe, that'll deform it. If you aren't a dancer, or if you are a dancer and want a more comfortable option for walking around the con, get demi pointe shoes, they don't have a shank...and they're cheaper!

Oh. Really? Cool. I feel special.
You did a pretty good job on Kraehe yourself!!

I'm actually working on her default tutu. Again. I scrapped what I had before and started over; I'm going to start sewing all the ruffles and stuff to the panty soon. You know, whenever school lets me.

I totally feel you when you say you want to make all the ballet costumes! It's so much fun! It also sucks all the money out of your wallet....

Double posting because the thread died. Again.

I'm on sort of a ballet high right now. And I've been working and working on my default tutu!
But I'm very excited right now, because I just tried new shoes and they don't hurt like &*#$*#&$, plus they're a lot pinker and will probably be easier to get to a nice color pink for Princess Tutu! And I'm just getting really really excited at the thought of cosplaying her at a con again because these shoes are so much more comfier.

.......soooo....yeah. Anyone got any good tutu stories? Anything? Live, Tutu friends!
Actually, I was sewing the ruffles to the panty the other night and I wasn't paying attention and mixed up two rows by accident.

See, I did ballet for many years. Are you wearing pointes?

EDIT - nevermind, I see that you are. If I may ask, which brand have you been going with?

I've been wearing Bloch Balance European, which everyone hates on me but I like because they're easy to get up in. I've tried Gamba, Repetto, Grishko, and Mirella and not had much luck.
But I just tried Fuzi, wore them for half a class last week and a full class this week and am extremely pleased. To the point where I'm actually excited about walking around a con in them. And not that I can find a picture online, but they're so much pinker (instead of that kind of orangey pink that most pointe shoes have, except Chacotts which are just oooooorangey yellow) which means that hopefully they'll be easier to dye for Princess Tutu if I go with them.

Speaking of dyeing shoes for Tutu....it's funny. I tried dyeing one pair, and I just couldn't get it dark enough. And then I went to dye another pair (which I'll reuse for Halloween so I don't feel too bad) and it's WAY too dark. Come to think of it, I'm not really sure what shade of pink to go for for Tutu that will look good but still be accurate.

Yeah. I was going to say that if you wanted pinker pink shoes, I've generally found that Capezio has some pink shoes, but they're more of a peach-pink, and they can look sickening. Gaynor Minden tends to lean more towards the orangey-pink, though I've heard that Leos can appear pretty pink.

I normally used Russian Pointe. Russian Pointes were really good for support. But they tend towards the whitish pink. They're so pretty, though.

Whitish pink is so pretty. I've seen those once or twice but no one in my area uses them.
A color like that would have been perfect for my Odette tutu though! And probably not get as dirty as mine are, since I dyed over them so much and the shine of the satin is gone. :|
You're right about Capezio, now that I think about it. I'm kinda "eh" about Gaynors, and I've never seen/used Leos that weren't tap shoes.

OH OH OH. And I started trying to style the wig for Ahiru's Rose Adagio tutu! I really do like Arda's salmon color. It doesn't actually scream "salmon" to me, but it does scream "Princess Tutu!"

...yay progress! (after 3 years of planning--no joke)

That's an image of Russian pointes. They tend to be about that color in low lighting. The only thing I will state is that they're not particularly comfy, and if you're used to rolling through, then you wouldn't be happy with them. Russian Pointe is usually best used for the springing on pointe methods seen in Vaganova and Cecchetti.

Capezio Plie can be very good for making the arch appear bigger and they tend to be more forgiving on the feet. They break in a bit quickly, though.

I finally gathered up the courage to restart my Ahiru (Aurora Rose Adagio) last Friday. I have pink demi-pointes for my shoes, finding the right size last year was a bear, but I can go en-pointe without fear since I have some ballet exp. It has been a few months that I abandoned my 1st tutu project because I got frustrated earlier last summer. I had figured out how to properly re-approach making a double hand pleated 10-layer pancake tutu but just needed to get cranking apparently. I knew when I could stand looking at the bolt again, it is time. I completely changed approaches, instead of starting with panty and panty ruffles construction- making rows and making sure each row is the proper length and width (not looking forward to the 100+ inch width rows).

My row progress would be a boring read: I completed row 4 last weekend and am halfway through row 6 for the pink rows. Basically every even row will be light pink (rosette) net and I'm planning to order lavender net for the odd rows. 10 rows in all; probably 17 inches, planning 17-19 inches long. Pictures of row 4 & 6 (unattached shown). Row 6 is about at 35 of 60 inches done for width.

SakuraxTsubasa: I really love your styled salmon arda wig; it matches very closely. At least you picked up rose adagio tutu again. I have guilt for abandoning mine for at least 3 months.

I'm actually thinking about doing an ellaborate default PT down the road, since I have 2 bolts of rosette pink. I swear my love for PT and the tutus keeps me going through pleating the longer rows. Row 10 is the over 100 inch row, row 9 is the 96 inch row; I'm going to start memorizing row lengths on my tutu before its all over. I initially was told working with light colors such as white or pink would be good for first tutu; does anyone find much difference in working with darker colors? I will eventually need to acquire more ballet shoes in the future. But at least the basic pink demi-pointes should be useful for at least rose adagio & default PT.

Haha and actually-- I picked up my default Tutu again, and I decided I'm probably gonna make this boring and gonna try for 100% accurate, and then make another one that's more flashy and fun. Aaaaaaand I'm slowly but not so surely making progress on the Rose Adagio tutu.....but really just collecting supplies until I've at least finished the actual tutu part of PT's default.
Sorry- I can't help with the dark colors since I've only done white and Paris pink. Hime no Toki and alpha_helix made Kraehe tutus though.
