My Pyramid head costume

Yes...it took me 3 weeks for the helmet alone, the great knife took 3 weeks. I was freaking out because I thought I would not be done in time. I did, and I was happy. But the problem was...I got the whole helmet wrong! It's up side down! I was like screw it...and then I wore it. The great knife's handle broke in the middle of the convention, I was like...oh shit. I called home and I taped the handle back together. I was so annoyed with people! They kept coming to hug me and my knife...and some people were plan scared of me.
I had a great time, that's what matters, Yeah.

Tell me what you think? I did it all on my own...and it was a pain.

Can you post a reference pic of the character? Not everyone knows pyramid head, and it'll help us have a reference of the character so we can give you a valid critique. =)

Can't really tell which version you were trying to accomplish here...?

Thanks for the reference, 4ng31

I'm going to be really nice and say that your pyramid head needs a lot of work. The whole concept of 'Pyramid Head" is to have a... well pyramid head. Your helmet needs work. It doesn't end in a sharp point like a normal pyramid. Those pink smudges don't really look like blood at all, you should try another painting method to make the blood red and more glossy.

The clothes are completely inaccurate. Pyramid head dresses in rags. Blood stained, dirty, slashed and ripped rags, not a simple doctor's coat (not that I know off anyway, unless you're going for a version not posted above).

The sword needs a lot of work too. It looks like a simple, painted piece of cardboard. It's not even the right lenght. You need to make it look a bit more realistic, and make the blood stains look more like blood.

Good luck!

Yes it does! I was not looking at the picture while building...the Great knife was off so was the helmet, Yeah. Also, the only reason I did not make it all bloody was because I did not want to scare people off...to much. Anyways, That was last year...I am going as Gaara this year. That was the costume I made, so you need to give me credit for that!

Hmm well at first glance it seems pretty good but I do have a few suggestions.
This is the biggest one, make everything bloodier/grungier. There should be absolutely no white anywhere. I mean, we're dealing with the crazy 'town horse' if you catch my drift who seems to enjoy partaking in the dismembering and disintacking of human flesh. Blood everywhere. And also, Silent Hill isn't the cleanest place. ;D
Another suggestion is maybe to trim down the edges of the Pyramid head. They stick out a little too far. The Great Knife, as the name suggests, should be Great. Maybe add a little more to id and give it a little more detail and refine the edges, ect.
And last suggestion, ditch the pants and shoes. Waaay to formal, kind of looks like PH got asked to the dance but could only be bothered to dress up half-way. XD
Use just large boots if you can and get a longer coat, tear it up a bit. Give it a tea-soak, cover yourself with lots of fake blood. If you really want to go that far, run over the coat with a car a few times. XD

Sorry if that was harsh. Lol. I'm planning on doing a PH cosplay with my boyfriend so I'm really strict about it.

I know...as I stated, I did not want to scare people with the blood. I am not cosplaying as PH ever again...it was one hard cosplay to get around.

I second all of the advice fellow cosplayers have given you-- but this part of the forums is for people who want critiques and suggestions on how to make their work better. So if you're just wanting to show of a cosplay you finished but have no desire to make it better or rework bits, perhaps you should find a Silent Hill thread and post there.

Please recall an anime convention.
Ninjas, pirates, reapers, theives, monsters, giant moogles, scantilly-clad woman.

I'm pretty darn sure that some fake blood isn't going to scare anyone unless they have a fear of blood.
If they do, then they can simply not look. I have a rather crippling fear of injections, I spotted at least three people in one day with a giant syringe but I knew that it was obviously fake. No reason to get scared.

Also, as HeeHee stated, if you're going to post in a critique thread, don't just try to defend your cosplay and hope for simply comment. If you're never going to use this critique then how come you posted this?

Agreed. If you weren't going to take our criticism to improve your Pyramid Head cosplay... why did you want to be criticized then? I agree with HeeHee, if you want to show off you pyramid head cosplay, find a Sillent Hill thread and post there.
