INTERRUPTION =D

I know anyone, with the right makeup, can look like the opposite gender. But it only works if the illusion is properly applied.
As for me? First time Crossplay. Just wanna see if anyone here has tips for makeup for me. I have ideas, but I can always use a veteran's advice. =D
Okay, I'll link lots of pictures of different angles of my face, from newest to oldest. All the links are from my photobucket account, nice and safe.

I guess I'm lucky that my lips aren't pigmented at all. Manly feature right there.
Anyways, any help is much appreciated! =D

jinglebooboo: You'll have to excuse me because I'm utterly stupid. ^^;; Your lips are kind of thick, so put foundation on your lips to make them look thinner. That's a really nice Yoko, by the way. ^^ Your nose is large so you have a head-start there, and your eyebrows are close to your eyes, so that's another male trait.

Noose: I'm not a veteran, but I'll offer my advice until LadyC gives her opinion. ^^ Your lips are also thick, so make them thinner and more guy-ish with foundation. Highlight your nose, chin, and forehead. shadow your cheekbones to make your feminine plump cheeks more narrow. To give yourself a stronger jaw, shadow the upper part of the jaw make it thinner going towards the chin, and then thicker just before the chin. Shadow the space between your nose and your mouth, and the space between your eyebrow and eye. Shadow under the eye to deepen the bags under your eyes, but don't go overboard or else you'll end up looking either dead-tired or dead:

I hope it helps for now. ^^

@Flyingdog: Ahh yess, I figured as much with the shadows. Though some dudes have thick lips, I guess it really does depend on the character you're trying to portray. But the dude I'm gonna attempt at does have thin lips. I guess, perhaps if I used some eyeshadow or liner along the inner lines of my lips, at the corners and along the inside of my bottom lip, it would draw more attention to the line of my mouth and less to my lips. I can test that. Makeup is definitely the easy part.

Now, this is strictly theoretical from my experience, but I recall seeing the process on a Dr. Phil episode many many moons ago. There was a woman who was testing how differently she'd be treated if she was portraying a man, yada yada yada... to get the stubble, she went the extra mile beyond stippled paint.
This could be a very useful tool for crossplayers, but I am recalling the steps purely from memory.
  • She bought a soft makeup brush with black bristles. Depending on your character, you can find blond and brown brushes. Red would have to be dyed. (we can mostly assume that rainbow-hair coloured men are Bishies and therefore don't have facial hair)
  • She found a skin-safe clear, malleable glue. Try kryolan or some sort of costume glue.
  • With a metal baking pan over her sink, in her bathroom, she took sharp scissors and slowly cut the tips of the fibres of the brush into tiny tiny little hairs, which were in the pan. With some sort of brush dipped in the glue, she ran it through the pan, gathering stubble, and then brushed it onto her face. Spread the hairs so they're not clumped.
  • Repeat the process until your jaw and sideburns are covered. For some characters, even the neck would have stubble.
  • Voila! You've just made yourself look much more manly with your five o'clock shadow. Grats.
Now, this doesn't work with MOST Anime characters, since they're very babyfaced. But for game characters like Snake, Auron, Cid Highwind, ect, its a fantastic way to finish the look. Find your application! =D

Disclaimer: this is not my personal process; I saw it on Dr. Phil preformed by a very ingenious woman. Credit her if you must credit anyone (though I can't remember her name.)

Edit: this would be a good thing to post on the makeup board, wouldn't it?

@Ninja Cookie:

I think you totally could. The right wig, and some shadows on your jaw to sharpen it... and there you go. All things considered, being blond yourself saves you a lot of hassle with the eyebrows. There's some makeup tutorials on Youtube that show how to de-feminize yourself.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUsbjkqUVH4 This should do the trick.

But really, I wouldn't sweat the small stuff, just make sure you look sufficiently manly and the clothes/wig/persona do the rest for you.

Of course, I'm not a veteran. LOL

Noose: You definitely know more about make-up, so whatever works for you to make your lips appear thinner. ^^ Yeah, there are guys with thicker lips but since the character has thin lips anyway, that would be something to attend to. ^^

Thanks for the tip on the stubble. I'm going to stick with--haha, pun intended-- spirit gum and craft fur for now to get Zeni rough-and-tumble, but if it doesn't work out well, then I'll try the woman's make-up brush strategy. ^^

I'd be more inclined to have made this a topic on its own, for more widespread assistance, but I can help here. Smooth legs are, well, essential for crossplaying a girl (if you're trying to be serious, at least ;D). For Nair, there's lots of issues with interesting reactions, so just do a test patch on the back of your leg behind your knee to make sure you don't break into hives. Nair also itches like hell (personal experience), but you get very smooth. Shaving, for the inexperienced/very hairy person often leaves little cuts and nicks, which hurts, and generally looks bad. If you're very very very tough, I'd suggest wax (but never on the day of Cosplaying). It lasts longer than nair (personal experience), and doesn't leave rashes for some people. But you'll be raw for a while. Do it with some time before crossplaying. You might want a close friend for consolation too. XD I'm assuming you're as hairy as my brothers, though.

@Flyingdog: well, I'm going to make a little topic about the stubble, to see if it might help anyone. But in the end, it all comes down to what works for the individual and what you feel comfortable doing. =D Personally, I think your beard looks great.

I'm crossplaying as the rather femanine Natsuo from Loveless, but I'd like to know if anyone thinks I'd be decent at it. Could I pass? Facially, at least. The figure is a whole other animal.

ametheneko-

You sure have a nice bishie face!

Yes. I would say you could DEFINITLY pass as Natsuo, and a light version of the basic FtM makeup would help you. ^^ Just a slight version because if it was too dark... you'd look much too old. xD Like a 20 year old Natsuo pretending he's a tween. (Which is an interesting idea... hmmmm.)

You might want to look around this forum for FtM makeup advice. Not being oh so elegant with words, I might tell you the wrong thing.
I would LOVE to see the results of any such test! Post here when you try it, please~!
