Can paint in a wig be washed out?

This kind of feels like a stupid question, but I was wondering if paint can be washed fully out of a wig, leaving no residue. I'm working on Death the Kid from Soul Eater and his dreadful white stripes. *_*
I first tried to get white extentions, spray them flat and even and sew them in, but the fibers are messy and end up looking kind of strange, so I'm thinking about taking them out and painting the stripes in. It'll probably only be temporary, though, until I find another solution, so I was wondering if the paint leaves anything on the fibers or if it's hard to wash out. Anything that might leave the wig to yucky to use later.
I was planing on using acrylic paint as well, by the way. ><
Thanks for your help~.
