Chun Li cosplay Waistband and Hair buns Help

I'm doing my best to get this completed by Fanime or AX, but I'm still hitting some walls. I have some questions for some of the past Chun Li cosplayers out there.

Waistband:

I don't plan on getting that dragon design on there (although it would be nice)...but my plan is to buy elastic material and somehow manage to get it to hook together in the back or side. I know some people have used cotton or other material for this. What have you used? And how did you get it to stay put?

Hair buns:

I haven't come across a real name for Chun Li's head pieces and I'm starting to think there really isn't one. I just know that Capcom stated they're made of silk as a symbol for her mourning for her father. That aside, I've got the material, but I know it's not as simple as wrapping it around your hair and wrapping the ribbon around it...or is it? O.o

How have you guys dealt with it? I honestly don't know where to start with these.

Some of my concerns include:
-puffy part needs to look smooth and rounded. (it doesn't cave in on the hair underneath)
-'wavy' effect (because the material scrunches
-where to put the string part that gets tied into a ribbon.

Any help is much appreciated!

When I made my chun li costume I just cut a huge circle made from satin and threaded some gold ribbon through the ends. To make them puffy I put my hair in the tightest, most accurate pig tails and rolled them into messy buns. I took some cotton balls and put them in the center and bobby pinned the bun closed. Put the bun wraps over my hair and they were perfect. It took a lot of practice though. And I had long hair. If you don't you might be able to take some badding (I don't know if I spelled that right) basically pillow stuffing, which you can get at any craft store, and put just a tiny bit on the in side before you put your hair in. Really if you just fluff your hair and maybe add a little on the inside they will be perfect. I'm sure you'll look great! Good luck!

PS If you want to see my chun li picture is on my profile

I made my bun covers ((called Baos on gaiaonline.com)) by making four 9 inch circle out of poly cotton (cause it was cheap),sewed 2 together to make the thick, cut eight 1 inch holes about 1 1/2 inches from the edge evenly all the way around. I originally had a 2 inch wide ribbon laced through to tie them over my hair buns, but I changed it to lacing elastic through the holes. I sewed the bows onto the baos and through the elastic so they would stay in place.

I hope that helps.

I made mine from satin circles that I edged with yellow bias binding.

I made two pigtails then backcombed them and shaped them into balls with hairnets and lots of pins. Then I covered then with the satin circle and wrapped ribbon around them to secure. Mine were very heavy on the ribbon
