MegaCon 2009 Feedback Thread

Hey everyone,

Once MegaCon 2009 is over, please reply and give your thoughts on this year's con. Stuff like:

Did you like the con? Or not so much?

What were some of the highlights for you or disappointments?

And.. will you return next year in 2010 or not?

Feel free to discuss what you thought about various things about the con: the hotel, the staff, masquerade, dealers' room, panels, cosplayers, etc. Please be courteous if you have something to post about that you didn't like, as those con-staff who may read these posts want to know how to improve for next year. So try to keep it polite throughout the thread.

Thanks for your input!

This was my third MegaCon (first time Cosplaying) and it was fun cosplaying, but the location (the dealer room seemed larger), wasn't that convient. Parking in West Concourse is very limited and the walk compared to previous years was longer. Last Year's (2008) and 2007's were great since we were in the central spot. Access to parking was easier and being by the esculators we had the area above the dealer room lobby to lounge around, hang out, take photos, etc. It just seemed more cramped outside the dealer room this year. Also, the choices for food were really horrible and it was my first time I actually left OCCC to get food. I didn't do any of the panels/presentations this year since nothing really caught my interest. Overall, it had it's pros and cons, but I'll still be back next year!

This was my first ever Megacon and first time cosplaying. It was an experience I will never forget. Everything was great, except when it came to going through people in the dealer room. I can understand people want to get by if someone is taking a picture but the pushing without saying anything kind of bothered me. But other than that I had fun.

Omigod, I am so wired. This was my third con, but my first MegaCon. I've been to JaCon and MetrocCon before. Truthfully, the only thing that bothered my truly was the parking and food options. I understand that there are a lot of people attending, and that they need to accomodate other gatherings (sooo many volleyball people) but it was terribly uncomfortable. By the time we walked from the car to the actual convention site, our feet were in pain.

But I had a blast and will probably have this massive smile on my face for DAYS.

Oh well. It's ok. I work at Disney, so a huge smile is a good thing I guess lol

I had a blast! This was my second con, and at first it was a HUGE culture shock because my first con was tiny. But I loved the dealer room (other than all the pushing and shoving at times). All the panels were really well-organized as well. The only real issue I have is parking. It took us a long time to walk from the parking lot to the actual con, but I'm not sure if con staff can do anything about that.

I'm also extremely happy that my Okami/KH crossover cosplay was so well received. I was worried no one would know who I was, but a lot of people did! So I think I might wear her again next year. =)

Overall it was an excellent experience and I'll probably be happy for weeks afterwards. ^_^

I know the convention may not have any control over this either, but the prices of food was shocking... two regular sized Bailey's Shakes cost over $14 >_>;

This is my second year in a row going to Megacon
I liked last year's location better; the parking was closer, the lighting was better and it was bigger but I still had fun. The prices were pretty intense tho. $3.25 for a bottle of soda? >>
I will be going back next year tho ^^

We have to remember though it is Orlando. And I think they know that when a giant crowd of people are either hungry or thirsty the smart thing would be to have high prices cause no matter how high, people will still buy them if they are the only place. *or something like that*

Yeh, that's exactly it. People will still pay.

I had my own drink bottle, but I couldn't help but buy cookies for $4 a cup b/c it was easy to snack on.

I had brought a pop-tart and only bought a drink $3.25 so I was set until the ride home and stopping by mcdonalds. lol But that's just the way of life, if its a neccessary thing for life no matter what people will buy it. But still, a great convention! You'd forget you have to eat half the time....I know I did. lol

Yeah. we almost ate nothing during the con. Lunch was ridiculously expensive and with all the body heat, costumes and enclosed spaces, we got thristy fast. So we ended up buying a pack of water and shoving bottles in a backpack before we went to the con.

The cosplay contest has never been on time. I don't understand why after the past five years I've attended this con, that it is *always* at least an hour late, why there are so many technical issues (I and many others had their music screwed up and not playing or possibly just lost - not cool), and why after five years, the emcee can't be bothered to learn how to pronounce the names of the characters and series he's announcing. He wasn't even trying this year, and dude, it's still not any funnier to say "Final Fantasy "Ex" 2" then it was when the game was actually new. I also don't get why there wasn't even seating this year for the contestants.

To add something positive, it was nice that we all got Pocky just for showing up.

Now, I probably won't be back next year, but it has nothing to do with the con itself, just my own plans to be in another state and probably unable to travel back. I'd still return, but seriously, someone needs to stop the costume contest from being an annual mess and fix the problems. After five years, it should be obvious how much time it takes to judge people and prepare the hall for the show.

It would also be great if there were more panels. There's never much to do at Megacon besides socialize and buy things.

I don't know much about the anime contest itself or how it's ran, but I know it's not ran by MegaCon directly. It's hosted and ran by Anime Sushi, I believe, who partners up w/ the MegaCon people. Don't quote me on this tho...
