Would a Twilight Skit be appropriate at an anime con?
Twilight isn't an anime but there have been great cosplays of it. So... Would it be outlandish to do a skit of Twilight at a Con?
[EDIT]: Not concerned about getting a bad response from anti-twilight fans, I'm not too big on Twilight myself, the skit would be poking fun at Twilight. Similar to: http://shinga.deviantart.com/art/Hea...Sucks-85504254 Otherwise, thanks so far for responding! It's very helpful! ![]() Last edited by Rhain : 04-26-2009 at 05:35 PM. |

I say go for it. Plenty of people do video games skits at anime cons and if they are allowed, then I don't see why Twilight shouldn't be. ^__^ Good luck, I love Twilight. <33

It would be a lot like doing a Star Wars or Harry Potter skit at a con.
Neither of which I've ever seen. Personally, I wouldn't do it, but I doubt there are rules preventing it.

Actually, there are. Many anime cons require that costumes and skits entered in the masquerade be based on characters from Japanese media. It's best to check the rules of the individual con.

careful...
._. twilight?
i would be REALLY careful if i were you. there are a lot of people out there who hate twilight fans. (im very sorry, but i am one. i mean no offence though.) unless of course youre making fun of it or something, then id say check with the rules, then go for it. |

I would check the rules, since most anime conventions do not allow non-anime/video game entries. That is, unless you did some humorous crossover (i.e. Edward runs into Victoria Celes from Hellsing or something).
Keep in mind, sadly, Anti-Twilight people are a bit verbal (and childish), so unless you're making fun of the series (or have a -really- amazing skit), they will respond in an unfashionable way. If this doesn't bother you, go for it. Have a good time!

Ya I gotta agree with setsuko. Anti-Twilight fans will let you know just how horrible your skit is ( no matter how good it is) because it's twilight.

No. Many if not most anime cons now have rules in place requiring that your source material be derived from Asian animation or games. At a sci-fi con, you could make it work.

Check the rules.
And even if its allowed, be very careful. There are so many people who live to bash Twilight. If you think you have something good and it's approved then go for it, but be prepared for so much flak.

Doubtful. Almost every Anime con I've been to has a rule saying nothing that isn't Japanese. Most cons are pretty strict we tried to find loopholes for the sake of a skit to allow Jesus (One skit) and I heard of another group tring to get team fortress, and lastly an Obama.
Now there is a Jesus manga, but lets be honest the point of the Jesus in the skit sure as hell wasn't the manga. Team Fortress while a video game is an american one so that kicked it out. And Obama appeared in Air Gear (Or close enough anyway) and all three of those were disallowed. I really doubt Twilight would be ok. Except MAYBE at a con like Manganext (No prizes) or a generic Sci-Fi con as was said. And honestly, I'm reading the first book and am entertained. I don't see why they are so great, BUT I don't see why they are so bad either. |

I remember seeing a Twilight Musical on youtube. If you guys spoofed something like that you wouldn't have to deal with as much flak. -wink-
I agree, it's based on the specific con. Some anime cons branch out to other stuff, some do not.

The problem with "spoofing" something is that if everybody watching doesn't know what you're spoofing, they will have absolutely no idea what they're looking at. Which is not entertaining. And for Twilight, it would have to be an AMAZING skit to do well anyway, since the characters in Twilight just wear ordinary street clothes. Beige ones, even. I'd keep this for a sci-fi audience, both because they'd be more likely to allow it and because they'd be likely to be more respectful.

As for being on topic, a Twilight skit. When people are cosplaying from this, I honestly don't even realize that they're cosplaying most of the time. I'm sure I would recognize a skit however, but I would throw some names of characters in there just in case. People are dwelling on this "be careful because people hate Twilight." Many people would also cheer for you, because a lot of Twilight fans are also in the crowd that attends "anime" cons. I really don't see the point of doing a Twilight skit at a Japanese culture type of convention, but if you're set on doing it, I'd check the rules of the masquerade. Hell, a group of friends and myself had to chosen not to do a Twilight based skit for Dragon*con for that very reason (that the anti-twilight people would be more verbal than the fans, thus making the skit less than enjoyable to do). I'm not lumping you into anything, nor do I care why you dislike the series either.

Yes, that's lumping everyone in together, despite there being different degrees of people who don't like the series (the same can be said about people who do like it.) Just because someone is verbal about it, doesn't make it childish, some people are capable of having intelligent debates about issues. Just saying. Done with cluttering this thread.
