How much wig dye will I need?
I know there are stickies to FW and Sharpie dyeing, and I've already read both of them. So please don't kill me over asking this D:
I'm putting together a Godiva from Cosworx and this wig (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&it em=180340118680) for Hatsune Miku's Dark Woods Circus version. So with the combined lengths and thicknesses of the Godiva(44") and the XXL Premium(60") how much dye would I need to make? Should I go with the spray or dye method for such a massive amount of fibers? And does anyone have any suggestion for which inks/Sharpies I should mix (ratio-wise) to get the proper shade for Miku? Well, in this method, she used a really long wig too... this is the method I'm going to use for my wig, soon. :P

I'm actually currently in the progress of dyeing one of those 60" white wigs from wig-depot myself. I can't give you an exact estimate on how much dye you'll need for that wig, but definitely more than 32 oz. (I'm a little over halfway done and have maybe 8 oz. of dye left and will have to make more soon, arr >D) The good news is that the wig does take Sharpie dye very well, though. I'm not sure exactly what fiber it's made of but Amphigory seems to carry the same brand in black and lists it as kanekalon (I suspect the white one might be a Kanekalon/Toyokalon blend since it tangles like crazy but it's hard to say).
What I've found works best so far is carefully singling out a layer or two of the wefts by placing some paper towels under them, spraying and then gently rubbing the paper towels over the section you just sprayed (helps distribute the dye more evenly and also helps to conserve dye since you're using the excess sprayed on the paper towels to color the back side of the fibers). In my experience this works waay better than grabbing a random section of hair, spraying a lot and then trying to mash the dye onto all the fibers. Both wigs are rather thick and long so I would strongly advise against dunk-dyeing—not only will it be messy and leave the wigs tangled but because they're thick it's likely a lot of fibers will be missed or have uneven coverage. I haven't worked with the Godivas that Cosworx sell but they're made of Eleora so it's possible that they may not dye as well (people on this site have done it successfully though, so it should be possible). So for a rough estimate I'd say maybe three 32 oz. bottles of rubbing alcohol? :\ That may or may not actually be more than you need but it's always good to have a little extra for touchups. I'm not sure how many Sharpies you'd need but Miku's hair is a turquoisey blue-green of some sort so mixing the pastel blue and pastel green sharpies might work out. I attached a couple photos of my in-progress wig—it's being dyed with a dye ratio of roughly 9 "lilac" sharpie markers and 32 oz. alcohol, so hopefully that'll give you some idea (I say roughly because there's actually a very small amount of pink and red mixed in there, but you get the point). I sprayed kind of sparingly, but if you spray larger amounts of dye over the same fibers it'll come out darker. You might be able to get away with using fewer markers if you mix the non-pastel colors, but I haven't really tried that before and can't tell you how different it might turn out. Hopefully that helped a little? :x I'm relatively new to wig dyeing myself so don't take my suggestions as the law or anything, but ish. Good luck~! ^^ (You should totally post results when you're done...=D)

Omg I love you. That helped soo~o much you have no idea. How do you think I should rise out the excess dye once it's finished? Would it tangle too much if I hung it up on a wig head in my tub and just kept pouring water over it? or would it become too tangled? And yes, I'll definitely be posting pics 8D of like, everything. I pretty much dropped all cosplay plans for the next three cons to splurge on Miku xDD lol.

=O Aw, you're welcome~
Pouring water over the wig seems to be a pretty standard rinsing alternative to bucket-dunking for long wigs, so I imagine it would work. When I was doing test swatches I filled a wide plastic bowl with water and swished the section of wig fiber around in that and then used paper towels to absorb the excess water and it seemed to work, but that might be too tedious for the entire wig and I'm not sure how much it would tangle in the process. I'll probably just end up doing the water-pouring method myself. 8D I'm kind of worried that since the wig is so long and thick, the sheer weight with all that extra water might potentially pull out a lot of fibers from the cap. Hopefully it'll be fine as long as the rinsing process goes quickly and the wig gets laid out flat when drying, though. I'll let you know how things go when I finish dyeing my wig. ^^ (which may not be for awhile, though >D Only happens when I'm feeling productive enough and the roommate/boyfriend/other-non-wiggy-inclined-peoplez are not in the room 8D||)
