How To Soften the Wig?

I've purchased a wig from the local store probably a year ago and after styling it with hairspray, dying it with the sharpie method, and a couple of trims, it seems to have hardened and no longer has the same texture as I've bought it before. I've washed it a few times with fabric softener, the same method I use for my other wigs and they turn out fine, but it doesn't have the same effect on my brown wig.

I'll be washing it again later, but just in case it doesn't work, do any of you have other methods to soften the wig?

You might not be able to bring it back to its old texture, it sounds like it's been through quite a lot. ^^

Just wash out the product (if there's still dye residue in the wig, strip it off with alcohol), straighten it if necessary, and soak it with wig / extension conditioner. I recommend this one. If it's high quality fiber, that should work to restore it. If it's a cheap wig, I'd save myself the trouble, though.

So is it really safe to use fabric softener to soften wigs? it doesnt have any bad out comes or bad affects to the wigs?

Fabric softener had additives that may leave film all over the hair shaft.

Baby shampoo and conditioners have less additives and less residual film.
