I have shelved Red Dead Redemption. That game is a sever disappointment and makes me wonder why so many publications gave it 2010's GOTY. A game hasn't come close to putting me to sleep this effectively since Shenmue (which actually did put me to sleep)

Yeah, in a year we got Bayonetta & Mass Effect 2, RDR's praise only baffled me.

Oh come on, that game rocked!! yeah ok it definitely didn't have a lot of "white knuckle" excitement, but you weren't impressed by the atmosphere , setting, and things you could do? I still think that is one of the best looking games for 360.

On the other hand I can see your point about it having its slow moments. But I think you have to give Rockstar some credit for at least trying something different. Maybe they will make another one, but improve on it in a way that you like better.

But I do have to agree with you on Shenmue, after all the hype I so so excited to play it on dreamcast, only to be bored to tears.

There's way too much hype on graphics over actual quality these days. I would much rather play a game with subpar graphics but an amazing plot. Basically why I haven't gotten Skyrim, sure it looks beautiful but there's so many bugs with it.

Anyway I started up on FFXIII-2 again, hoping that I have enough free time this week to actually get somewhere in it.

Hey I'm an old school gamer. Trust me I am totally with you in terms of story/gameplay over graphics. If you want to play a computer RPG with basically the best storyline of any game ever get the 1999 release of planescape torment.

I had read about that game a few years ago and downloaded a copy from good old gaming, since the game is basically abandon ware due to the company going out of business years ago.

It's a rpg with so many dialogue options you won't believe it. Only criticism is that combat backseat a backseat, but still it is an amazing game and a must play for anyone who ever liked computer rpgs.

Finished The Witcher 2 but am playing through it again to do the second story line. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good plot/character driven RPG. The battle mechanics are solid and the difficulty is a moderate challenge (harder than Mass Effect, more forgiving than Dark Souls). The overall game had a really unique feel for me. The only thing that isn't a standout IMO is the environment design. The graphics look great but the villages, forests, etc. aren't anything special.

I... don't want to be rude but you just talked about graphics vs gameplay and you're playing XIII-2. Not ragging on the game, but I feel like that's a perfect example of the graphics being the biggest draw over gameplay.

On the topic of Skyrim, none of the bugs ever ruined my experience. They were amusing at best.

I've also recently played Nier and the PSX Metal Gear Solid, I'm not far enough in to XIII-2 to judge if the gameplay is bad but so far it doesn't seem to be. I'm not saying every new game is going to be more focused on graphics over gameplay/story but there's been a pretty big shift in recent years.

Anyway, messing with some older GBC/GBA games right now. Managed to get the old Pokemon TCG cartridge to work again so far.

No way. Skyrim has A TON of stuff to do in it. The main draw of this game is gameplay! If you think it looks beautiful, you should at least give it a try. Games can have both beautiful graphics AND gameplay, the two don't have to be mutually exclusive.

You guys hated RDR? Huge frowny face, dude. I thought that game was strangely fun. A different type of fun than something like Bayonetta, sure, but fun nonetheless.

I didn't say it doesn't have anything to do, just that I tend to stay away from buggy games, cool graphics or not. I'd end up getting it on the PS3 and several of my friends have too, all of them experienced a bug that wouldn't let them save after a certain amount of time. Ultimately I would like to try it one day once there's fewer problems like that (and I can afford it), but for now it's not really on my must-play list.
I know games can have both, but again, a lot of games don't anymore. They definitely do exist, I mean both Okami and Skyward Sword fall under the good game and graphics category.

Good gameplay is also a matter of taste. I gave up on Okami, Skyward Sword and Skyrim because I found the mechanics slow and dull. Not saying they were bad games. Just not fun for me. Though I agree - all three looked great.

I have RDR and it is on my list of games to play eventually because Westerns.

hahaha I think I just realized why the guys here didn't like RDR but I did....

As for Skyward Sword, I gave up on that too, but I'm going to give it another try after finals (so, I'll try playing it again in a few days). I really liked Twilight Princess (I know I'm the only one here who did) but Skyward Sword just isn't doing it for me. There's too much... padding? I guess would be the word for it, between the dungeons. The dungeons for me are the fun part of Zelda games, but in this game each dungeon is taking me an hour at the most, and then it's back to fetch quests and collecting random crap before I could go to the next dungeon. I guess I want more of a fast-paced style Zelda.

Hahahah! I was going to say "...because cowboys!" but I do like the whole Western genre, not just the cowboys. I also like their horses. (:

Did you forget who you're talking to here? I love LoZTP. And really - there were some things about Skyward Sword I liked. I think that if I had of just bit the bullet and followed a guide I would have enjoyed it more. That way I could have got through the slow parts faster without doing as much doubling back. But, eh, following a guide is not my style. I'll check one if I get stuck but I don't want to follow step-by-step.

With Skyward Sword I really like the visuals, the characters (I felt it had more character interaction and development than a lot of Zelda games), some of the environments are really cool... but I can't get past the parts where you have to go find random crap to allow access to the dungeon. Maybe I just suck at that game or should be following a guide, but it seriously takes me WAY too long to get past those parts and it's really slowing me down. I really want to like the game though, so I'm not going to give up on it entirely just yet.

I've been playing Skylanders because it helps for work. Haha.

I haven't had the stamina for video games lately, aside from some Kinect gaming. Disneyland Adventures, Fruit Ninja, Michael Jackson Experience, Your Shape... and today, DanceMasters came in! WOOHOO! I have had my Kinect for a year now, but haven't played it as much as I'd like. In the colder months we adjusted our living room so we could use the fireplace, and didn't have the space for Kinect. Now that it's warm again, it's KINECT TIME. Yup.

Oh. Well yeah. Don't do that. 360 or PC, dude. No other way for Skyrim!
