Ah, I feel loved.

I haven't had a chance to play it yet (aside from the demo), but so far I've seen nods to Viewtiful Joe and Resident Evil 4 in a couple videos online.

There's also plenty of SEGA love in this game. Easily the action game of the year, and the first true Devil May Cry killer this generation. Kratos and Travis need one hell of a showing to triumph this game (Dante's Inferno isn't even a contender at this point).

And I've yet to play Demon's Souls, as I'll pick it up this summer, when I have the time (in theory) to play it.

Also Zweil, some excellent PS3 game of your caliber not called Demon's Souls are Uncharted 2, Valkyria Chronicles, Flower, Everyday Shooter and...come to think of it, there's probably more downloadable games relevant to your interests than retail disc ones.
I'll give you Flower and Everyday Shooter, but I'm referring to retail games which actually cost more than $10. If we're going to talk DLC games, then the 360 already has a good dozen of those I would buy, and the Wii already has several. (whereas Everyday Shooter, Flower, and flOw are the only PS3-exclusive ones which grab me) I sort of wanted to play Valkyria Chronicles, briefly, before I remembered that I generally don't like Japanese RPGs. Uncharted 2 never interested me, because Uncharted 1 never interested me, because I didn't like Tomb Raider when it had tits; why should I be drawn to it when it lacks these tits? (Modern-day/ jungle-exploran gaims = not my thing)

Definitely loving Bayonetta, though. Yes, it is indeed the true second coming of the original Devil May Cry. Combat's so smooth. Plays like motherfucking butter. Also shat bricks when I found out Baoynetta's delightfully Danny DeVito-esque informant's name is none other than Enzo. Dante's informant. Fuck year. At the very least, unless NMH2 or GoW3 turn out to be fucking amazing, then... action GotY.

Funny, we both have only a single game on our want list for the other console. As for me, the only game that makes me want a 360 is Tales of Vesperia.

Most of the games that appeal to me currently are on both systems, with the exception of Uncharted and its sequel. The only exclusives on Ps3 I'm waiting for are Last Guardian and God of War 3. But it's a whole different story for non-exclusives - I'll be getting Super SFIV, Bioshock 2, Dante's Inferno, and Final Fantasy XIII to name a few. I may not purchase but time permitting I'll play through Bayonetta, Darksiders, Dark Void (this one has bad story written all over it), Lego Harry Potter, Nier (looks interesting), the new Transformers: War for Cybertron, and Dead Space 2.
I suppose this describes me as well.

The hopes slightly increase for the full version to be localized.

I started playing Bayonetta. First turned on my 360 in quite some time, actually.

Uh-oh.

Captain, I'm reading massive levels of GoW fanboyism, Sony fanboyism, and Bayonetta downtalk, all emanating from the same Baddie-Class subspace signature at coordinates n16632f46607! Preparing shield levels for a barrage of faggotry, and taking JUST DON'T GIVE A FUCK evasive formation! Alerting all crew to set Phasers for AWESOEMFACE.JPG, should this anomaly attempt to send a boarding party under the assumption we might give two fucks.

Picked up Bayonetta today and I can't wait to play. However, I felt a bit guilty getting a new game when I have so many others to play, so all I've done today is play a bit more Assassin's Creed 2. But now I'm annoyed with it again so Bayonetta it is. Also, Fire Emblem. Yaaaay!

That's what I'm talking about. Difficulty shouldn't define gamers. Gamers shouldn't exalt themselves to a position of authority just because everyone else won't flock to games with punishing difficulty. My point is that enjoying a game is what matters most, not how much trouble someone is required to go through in being good at a game before being considered a gamer.

But hey if you don't think games are meant to enjoyed, or that only people who play extreme mode count as gamers, then peg me as wrong.

Speaking of which, I'm currently enjoying Uncharted 2, and I will check out Bayonetta once I complete this game. I'm still afraid Bayonetta's story is going to suck hard, however.

I have my opinion, and it seems that you have yours. Keep in mind, some take pleasure in ball-breaking challenges because the satisfaction of overcoming them far exceeds anything felt by having victory generously handed to you.

Also, fear not, Bayonetta's story is actually pretty decent. It's like what Devil May Cry would be like if it had an interesting story. I'm honestly playing half for the action, half for the story, and half for dat ass. ...half, half, and h.. ... ...awesome game. Play it.

Do people still argue that "hardcore" games exist?

Any game can be played casual or hardcore...it's not the game that decides, but how the game is played. Hell, all the original NES games can be considered casual games...but there is the hardcore crowd that plays the games for speed-runs. People consider GH and RB casual...but there are the "pro's" that play the game to perfection.

I dunno...that's my opinion...any game can be played at a hardcore level...it's not the game that decides...except for those shitty "babiez" games...they can piss off.

Yeah. You can try playing Battle Garegga, Ninja Gaiden (the arcade/NES original), Gradius, or Contra "casually." You'll just get your ass kicked, and not have fun until you improve your game. (Unless you really, really like that first level) The only way to successfully play "casually" is to become so in-tune with (x difficult game) that what others may call a "hardcore" playstyle is what you would merely call "casual".

But to take your first step into a balls-deep hard game and expect it to be nice to you whilst you carelessly mash buttons? That kind of "casual" play? Shit will get you killed, and will keep getting you killed until you either learn your lesson, or ragequit and gb2 Kingdom Hearts.

tl;dr: Any game which doesn't hand your ass to you the first time you play it is casual.

So Lost Levels is casual even though it's real easy at first and eventually becomes balls-hard? I'd say Lost levels is definitely hardcore.

And yes, I agree we both have our opinions, and that they shouldn't interfere with each other. I apologize for trying to change that. Also, nice speech on difficult games.

As for my progress on Uncharted 2, I got to a part where I glitched into being stuck in sandbags with a graphics-clipping issue (aka half of Drake was in the cover). Normally those glitches get your character stuck, and that's exactly what happened to me, but only in a combat situation. I wonder if that happened to anyone that gave the game a perfect score.

Huh, I've never had any glitch like that in Uncharted 2. And I've played the game at least five times on all difficulties.

The Japanese version of Phantasy Star Portable 2 came in the mail last night, so I'm playing that now. I love all of the partnership bonuses in the game, such as the Evangelion, Hatsune Miku, and Fate/stay night costumes and equipment. There's even a Valkyria Chronicles Edelweiss decoration for my room!

I'm honestly asking: What is so great about the Uncharted series, and why should I play it? I've watched someone play for about half an hour. It was on some shitty stealth segment where if you get caught, you have to retry. Again. And again. And again. It was like when I watched an ex-girlfriend play RE4, and all the bullshit (camera problems, lack of being able to see two feet behind your back, escort missions, timed missions, etc) convinced me to never try it for myself, since it embodied everything I dislike about bad vidya. I'm honestly not a fan of the more "down to earth" action games, or even slightly less down-to-earth, like Tomb Raider. If you're going to give me an action game, make it over the top, or not at all. Jungle exploran doesn't grab me; Tomb Raider pretty much ruined the concept for me. So... not trying to troll, just honestly asking, what is the big deal about Uncharted, and why should I care enough to play it? Everyone seems to be talking about it, so I'm hoping it's actually worthy of the hype, unlike certain games.

Hey, you linked to the wrong FF there, bro, but here goes. First off, there's a lot of talk about the game ITT right now because someone is playing it now, although I assume they mean that figuratively. It isn't the best game nor does it try to be; the best stealth shooter series is, always has been, and always will be Metal Gear Solid.

But that isn't to say the game isn't fun. To address the segment you were referring to, let us say it is for stealth games what 'separates the boys from the men.' See, even the first Uncharted was less of a 'exploran' game and more of a 'sneakan' game; in Tomb Raider, you could pretty much run and gun when enemies were around. Yes, there are certain moments in Uncharted which are obviously set up so that the player must kill all the enemies in the area, but they are only there occasionally to mix up the action.

It has been said that, beginning around the Jak games, Naughty Dog worked to make their games have a more cinematic feel. In the Uncharted series this is most true thanks to nice modeling and animation, and the fact that the interactions between characters are better acted. It's no Mass Effect, but it certainly does the job of getting players like myself and others 'in the game' just that much more. Oh, and in your case, you ought to know that some of the stuff Drake does in the first game is pretty 'balls-out' over-the-top stuff.

I hope this post clears up at least some of 'what the big deal is.'
