Rukia Cosplay Costume Help PLEASE!!! (I'm clueless)

Ok well I'm going to cosplay as Rukia for Halloween with my friend Valerie A.K.A Rakoku who is going to cosplay as Byakuya (i want to get ahead of my cosplay costume ) But, I'm still a Newbie on cosplay so i have a couple of Questions:

First off, i'm not sure how to make a shihakushō/shinigami uniform (or whatever you want to call it) so anyways i don't know where to start from
i'm not even sure what kind of pattern to use for this.
and i need to ask what kind of fabric material would be the best to use?
So please all help or suggestion's would really help me out or a couple of suggestion's for patterns would even help me out more.

And secondly, I want to make Rukia's zanpakuto
but, i still don't know how to do that either.
and what kind of material would be best to use for this?
so again some suggestion's would help me out a lot
but some tutorial's or something would help me out more

so yeah i think that's all the question's i have in mind right now.....
So please all help and suggestions would help me out so much
and i would be so grateful to all you people that would help sooo....

THANK YOU!!!!

for the gi and hakama I would highly reccomend twill, for the juban or underkimono I would reccomend a lightweight cotton, and you use the exact same pattern just sew the sleeves together so you woul basically make the juban like a man's kimono and the gi a woman's, except same length, as for length I woiuld really reccommend making it end a little farther than the vents in the hakama, then I would also like to point out a common misconception. Most people think the "sashes" on the hakama are white, weather or not this is relevant is not important to what I am about to say, I would like to point out that what you are seeing is in fact an obi. It is quite plausible the sashes are white but regardless thereis also a white obi. As for the sword tutorial I would reccommend Chioky on deviantart, also next time you may want to use the search function because there isalready a thread on this
