It's smaller than Anime Expo. As I've never been to Anime LA, I can't really know. Guessing, I'd say AV's a little smaller....

Weapons Policy (found here: http://www.animevegas.com/index.php?...d=6&Itemid =6 )

1) All live steel, firearms, open flame and

paddles are prohibited. If it's real, it's not

allowed! Wooden practice swords are ok, but

may be subject to inspection.

2) All props and prop weapons may be

inspected by staff at any time.
(I've never seen this happen)

3) Fighting, even mock fighting is prohibited!

Offenders will be ejected from the convention

WITHOUT refund.
(I've never seen this happen, either)

In regards to rule 3, rumor has it the staff will be harsher on the mock fighting rule. But then again you never know.

Anime Vegas usually boasts about 4,000 attendees. Obviously much smaller, but it still holds just as much to do as Anime Expo. I've heard a lot of regular AX attendees say they liked Anime Vegas much better, so its worth trying out.

I am so excited to see you there! The con is small but there tends to be a LOT of cosplayers, so you will fit right in!!

A question I keep asking Anime Vegas regulars...

How far is Cashman from the strip? I do have a (free) hotel room at Caesar's Palace for that weekend. I keep hearing I probably need to taxi it over because Cashman is so far off. I figure, while I'm in Vegas...you know? Still trying to figure out the logistics before I decide to go.

It should be 5-6 miles walking. Did you try Google Maps?

They also have the public transit routes (planned out on Google Maps).
Cost and other public transit info:
http://www.rtcsouthernnevada.com/tra...itGuideWEB.pdf

Directions:
3570 Las Vegas Blvd S, Las Vegas, NV 89109 (Caesars Palace)
to:
Las Vegas, NV 89101 (Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority: Cashman Center)

So it depends on you...though there is still the issue of the weather.

I wouldn't recommend walking it. Even though it's in September, it is still FREAKISHLY hot. It is a good 5-10 minute drive from the strip.

Size-wise it is probably about 1/3 of AX. About the same size as ALA...maybe a bit smaller.

1/3 of AX is a bit too much since av got about 5 k or so last year and ax was like 45k so it is 1/9 of AX XD

It may be small (yes, it's about the same size as ALA. . . I've been to both), but it's tons of fun -- especially for cosplayers! A word of warning, the crowd is younger, so if you don't want to be massively tackle-glomped (because of shyness, delicate costume, germ phobia, whatever) make sure you tell everyone! They're usually pretty good at respecting your wishes.

The panels and guests are a lot of fun, the con itself is well run, and the masquerade has always been a great experience for me! (You should definitely do it!) They have a "family friendly" policy, too.

The folks in charge of the cosplay booth are pretty cool about weapons, as long as you don't mock fight/draw on anyone. They're pretty hard core about that safety issue. But they usually go out of their way to peace bond props in non-obnoxious places (so it doesn't ruin all your pictures)!

Travel-Valenti, definitely take a taxi or public transportation to the convention. Cashman may technically be on Las Vegas Blvd, but it is a VERY long walk. Cashman Center is a pretty decent place to hold a convention, but the big drawback is that it's not close to any hotel except one very dumpy scary place.

Other than that, I agree with missrelena (who is probably AV's best spokesperson, lol).
