I like the minimalist one with the black stripes. How do you intend to do your face mask? I harbored some intentions of doing Garrus (too tall) then Saren (out of my league) before I finally settled on a non-turian, Thane. I would be greatly interested in following your project.

A wise person once said: "Who cares if you arent as tall or look exactly how you need to? As long as you scale everything and act the part you're good to go!" (or something like that). Im only 5' 7'' thats 5 inches shorter than your average Turain
But hey, variety is good! We already have a Tali, Shepard, Ashley, Benezia and several Asari. And now we have a Turain and Thane on the way

As for the face... I was going to make a mould and cast latex pieces from it. It would come in two, maybe three parts for the whole thing: One for the jaw with the mandibles and one for the upper face and 'spikes' on the head. If I did split it into three parts then the jaw would still be its own piece, the face would be its own piece and then the 'spikes' would be some variation of a bald cap. If this goes as planned it would not only look real due to it being made from latex but it would also allow free movement of my jaw so I cant talk.

That sounds familiar! Pfft wise person.

But as I've said for many Mass Effect cosplayers looking to do an alien latex piece, definitely look at Kris Sayer's tutorial on asari pieces. http://www.tatterhood.com/comics Its exactly what you need to do for the piece, just...take out the asari bit xD
And if you decide to split off the mask into different segments (like top and bottom) for more movement, I'd say work on those pieces individually instead of sculpting the whole clay head. Doing it this way makes less clay to use/buy

Also, if you don't have your own fitted sculpting head and are using a generic sculpting skull I suggest measuring circumferences of your head and things like the length from you forehead to the back of your neck etc and comparing it to your sculpt head. You will definitely need to build up clay on the head to fit your dimensions. I was a little lax on my forehead and my asari cap fits very snug.

I have a feeling not a lot of people will post here since there are only a few of us. But heres to hoping!

The few, the proud, the Mass Effect Cosplayers.

Aaaanyways, Ive put up photos of what Im planning on making the latex prosthetic for my Turain look like. Also, I have the designs for the face of the Turian Knight up too. All designs were tediously done in paint since Photoshop is refusing to work for me, so Ill add others as I go along.

Yay Mass Effect!

All about the Mass Effect love here!

I cosplay Benezia and I have to say, I get a ton of love for her as it is. The biggest problem I have with my costume is the asari head shape. As it is, I use a bathing cap to hold my hair, and the actual head is covered by Benezia's hat.

I'm in northeastern USA, is there anyone in the same area? I'd love to do a group Mass Effect cosplay.

Oh god, I love this game, and I'm glad to see that there's a thread for it now.

I have a tendency to speak too soon about costumes -- aka, I say, "I'm going to do that!" and then never get around to it -- but I am bound and determined to do some Mass Effect cosplay. Poor game doesn't get enough love for how epic it is.

Anyway, my hope is to get Miranda done sometime before the sequel comes out next year.

Though I've always wanted to try making custom latex makeup stuff, and that Asari headpiece tutorial is really tempting me. Thanks so much for posting it, hmwsg x!

Shyala how far northeast are you? Im pretty flexible because Im in Missouri so technically Im 'near' everyone ^_^ but I plan on going to some kind of con once my Turian is done. Im a con noob so I havent the slightest idea about which I should attend.

It would be awesome if we could take a census of all the ME cosplayers and try to workout a way for all of us to meet sometime.

"In other news..."
Ive finished sculpting the clay model for the mold of my Turian hand armor. I should have a final fiberglass/resin casting of it by the end of next week. Im starting on the bracers on Monday.

I'd say for the head shape is to maybe make a wire frame in the hat. Its kind of a triangular shape and I think sewing a curved/convex "pyramid" shape into the back would help give the impression your head has the asari shape. Its hard to explain and this is the only good shot I have of her hat: http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Fil...acter_Shot.png
Hopefully that made some sense

I'm in north west, but I think if we ever could do groups (which I would love to do) I think it would have to be a major con that we would have to meet up at. Places like Dragoncon, AX, SDComicCon...all of them of course so far from me but if others were going and wanted a group I'd be willing.

You're welcome, Far Cry! The asari headpiece only took me a dedicated month or so to do (but again, I didn't make a personal head mold). I think for Kris it took her a month in a half-2months. If you have any questions Kris is good at getting back to you and shes very nice I have photos of my progress in my WIP gallery if you're still waffling over it.

I'm thinking of trying to make the asari head shape out of foam and very thin fabric. The hat hides the bathing cap pretty well, but the real issue is that bathing cap gets incredibly hot. I cosplay Benezia all day during a con and by the time I pull off the bathing cap, my hair is dripping wet (gross I know, but we suffer for our art). With a fabric cap, there would at least be some breathability.

hi there.

I'm new at these forums, so "hi" to everyone first.

Since I've played several times through this gorgeous game now, I'm really interested in creating an armor for a female commander Shepard.
Like the lightest of the onyx armor she's/he's wearing at the beginning. Or maybe an easier alternative. I also never created an armor/costume like that before but I'll try anyway

The most important thing to me is, that you can detect which character I wanna represent. I think the biggest thing to show that is the "N7" symbol at the front of the armor.

Well...like I told you above, I never created such an armor before, so if anyone of you can give me some help, It would be fantastic.

Thank you!

Best wishes,

Luci

Hey Luci, welcome to the boards.
Your best bet for making Shepard's armor is to make it out of plastic. The ABS plastic technique you may have heard of for stormtrooper armor is good, but highly involved and expensive. My friend made a suit of sci-fi armor for his wife out of another type of plastic. It is colloquially called sintra, or PVC foam board. If there is a plastics supply store in your area, you could try them. Otherwise, you will have to look online.
I found this website

http://www.foamboardsource.com/

Give them a shot.
Also, you're going to need her black undersuit. For my friend's Shepard armor he is buying this suit:

http://www.unrealfind.com/Merchant2/...tego ry_Code=

Making the individual parts is rather simple, since Mass Effect armor is all about function over form. I would take some tag board (or any kind of stiff paper) and cut the shapes out as blanks, then assemble them on the suit, to give a rough idea of how it will look. The PVC is fairly easy to cut with a razor blade, although it takes some work. To attach the pieces, heavy-duty velcro works just fine. Just get large pieces, not the strips or dots, as they don't have nearly enough hold.
One final word. My friend did his wife's breastplate by augmenting the whole suit with a fencing chest guard for women, as sintra doesn't perform very well at making shapes to complement breasts. It can be heat-shaped, but probably not vaccu-formed, so you might have to be creative in doing the breast plate.
Good luck!

hey, thank you VERY much for your ideas, demifiend!

This diving-suit like undersuit could fit very well - I also thought about something before, but never knew where to get that things from.
My boyfriend actually wanna help me preparing the suit with me, so I think there will be a real chance to get it done. I also thought about beginning with the "light armor" first - it has fewer shoulder-plates than the heavy armor:

http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/1...onyx_super.png

So...maybe it's better to start with the light one.

Anyway...thank you very much for your first help. I'll keep you informed about my "first try"

And I'm glad to be part of the group, Shyala Very nice Benezia suit btw! *jealousy*
