Ok, I officially have way too many Mass Effect cosplays on my list for next year... BUT! I have found a solution to a few of them.

So my fiance is going to make Shepard's N7 armor, possibly using the foam technique, and I have a total of 4 female outfits to match. 3 of those are asari ie Samara, Liara, and an Omega dancer. I ordered a headpiece from the amazing Satine, and I plan to use it for all three. I will paint it in just the right shade that will work for all three, though I might opt to get a second headpiece for the dancer one since they tend to be much darker in skin tone.

As for the 4th, that would be Miranda. I have a few techniques I want to try to see if I can get the raised effect with the hexagons, so this one will require a decent amount of experimentation. Haha, ironic since Miranda is herself an experiment of sorts. :P

My friends and I have decided to put together a ME group for next year. I already did some Dragon Age so why not Mass Effect?!
My hubby said he would do Kaidan if I did Shepard. I also really want to do Kasumi... somehow. I love her, definitely my favorite female squad member.

Yaay! Would you have any asari done by Gencon? Then we could be asari twins :3 My (female) friend who hung out around my booth is going to be Samara next year. I'll probably still be a commando/Morinth

My first asari idea was to be a dancer xD But then I backed down since it shows way too much ass that I'm comfortable with lol

Alright. So it's been a while since I updated with photos. I've been floundering about with the armor. The designs look Turian, but have a very plate-armor look to them, which I thought was appropriate considering my guy has a Dragon Age tattoo.

The photos aren't at all flattering -- the lighting is awful --, but they give you an idea of what the costume may look like in the future. Hopefully I can get some better photos tomorrow.

The torso-piece is a bit wide, and since I don't have my body suit (an issue with the mail....) I'm making due with a t-shirt and jeans hahaha

First picture
Gives you an idea of whats going on. I have shoulder pads to give my shoulders a 'rounded' look, and then the actual armor on top of those. Made out of EVA foam.. still has a looong way to go. The black stuff is hockey tape.

Second picture
The gun. Its definitely not pretty. I made it with a lack of attention, so parts of it look awful. It needs to be roughed up a bit more -- the red lines need to be fixed.

Overall, I'm pleased with the progress. I'm taking a lot of liberties with the design of.. well.. everything. I figure once I have more experience with costumes I'll be more keen to do canon-characters and stick to their designs.. until then, OC Turian is rocking my basement.

OCs are love They really are

I got my collar mold done This means I can start casting Samara collars by the dozen My resin collar sure is pretty but it's too uncomfortable to wear. Besides like everything else she wears it's all one skin in the game so moves like it's made from latex anyway

I'm probably going to make my new shoulder bells from some very soft eva foam I have backed with some buckram so I can sew some snaps in to join it to the body suit. The back armour will possibly be sculpted and molded, I just need to get my plasticine back for that

I made a bikini top out of latex (princess leia's - was inspired after reading that one of the ones she wore was made or rubber) and I found that adding wire (NOT stranded - solid; I used rebar wire) to any latex piece not only adds structure, it makes it pretty malleable. Works so well, it makes me wish the Asari wigglies needed posing.

No need to add wire I'll possibly lay some fabric in the back to give it vertical support though. Metal will decolour latex (copper especially) and while I have the latex tinted and will be painting over it I'm concerned about that. But then I am a bit over cautious when it comes to painting and wearing make up with my latex pieces too Even my moisturiser has a petroleum derived componant so I won't wear it when I wear my head piece. It's a small amount but I want to make the piece last for a long time

Wow, I love that gun. Any chance I could pay you to make me one by NYCC?

Speaking of NYCC, who is going again? Joeychan and Resuka, right? If Otakon taught me anything it's that people freak out for ME cosplay. I kinda want to agree on a meetup time with you guys and go to the rendezvous point wearing some sort of trench coat so no one stops me til I get to you, haha. Does Saturday sound good for a meetup?

Working on Miranda 2.0 has been interesting. Using fake black leather for the sleeves this time around, which looks great, and I have a MUCH better hexagon stencil. I'm doing two coats of fabric paint and then two coats of latex paint to give the pattern shine and a raised texture. I also finally found a good fabric for the hip and back (aida cloth) and I got pipping today so I can do it properly.
