Duo's (GW) pants
This is more of a curiousity question than anything, as I'm not planning to make a Duo costume. I was just wondering how those weird poofy pants are made. Specifically, what do you put in them (wire?) to make them stay like that? I've seen other characters with them, and it'd be nice to know how that's done, in case I ever do find a character with pants like that who I do want to cosplay. ^_^;

I was Duo, it was more ghetto than anything else T_T
I just bought some really big dress pants and "fluffed" them up every once in a while... it was interesting... but people knew who I was and I got glomped anyway... Good ol' Con days! Good Luck! |

Jodhpurs are actually cut to fit closely except on the upper leg, where they are simply cut to poof out to the sides. I'm not clear on how this evolved, but I believe they were originally worn for horseback riding. So there's nothing that makes them stay poofed out; it's just the way they fit. Folkwear used to have a pattern for them, but I believe it's been discontinued.

Yesh, you could always get the traditional riding pants - I wonder why he wears them? o_O

Oh goody, you knew what I was talking about. I had no clue what you call those funny pants. Thanks, Koumori. I guess you just use thick fabric and it's all good?
As for why anyone wears them, I have no clue. They're just distinctive. I'd like a pair. ^_^ |

All I've been able to find out is that they originated in British India in the late 19th century. I poked around the web a little bit, but all I can find are equestrian suppliers. And a couple of "females in jodhpurs" sites which I can only assume is some fetish I hadn't been previously aware of. It looks like current styles of jodhpurs don't have the fullness through the upper leg, or if so, not nearly as much as the older style - though I would bet that that's because of modern spandex stretch fabrics replacing older wovens for the purpose.

Oi..
well you wouldn't believe where I got mine. When I went up to south hampton there was this big sale going on at some antiquey-odd item place. there I found a pair of Mounty pants! <thats what I call them> I removed the stripes..and fixed the full parts a bit..but they look great xD

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten that. They're still a part of the Mounties' uniform - which makes sense if you think about it.
