So..I resized my picture for a new forum avatar..It says max of 150X150..tall-ways it's 150, and width-ways it's less than that (so a rectangle), which is allowed becasue I've seen rectangular ones plenty of times on here. However, it says my pictures have to be like 19kb or something..Which is ridiculously small..Mines a phone camera picture that I made down to that small and it's still 190kb..How the hell am I suppose to upload a new avatar if the picture has to be SO SMALL that ia damn camera phone is too big for it?

It's a 150x150 avatar, the max size should be 20KB which is large enough for a 150x150. When you say 190kb do you mean 190KB as in Kilobytes? If so that's almost 10x the size allotment.

I updated it to 25KB max just now, but we won't go larger because a page with 10-15 100KB+ avatars would just slow down the overall page load speed.

Well whatever [number]KB means..I thought that meant Kilobytes..But yea..That's what it says my picture is..And it's from a cell phone..So if a phone takes that big of pictures, imagine how hard it's gotta be to make a digital camera picture that small..Also, I've yet to find a way to actually make it smaller..I have no idea how..Can someone at least tell me how to do that? I only have Microsoft Paint and I don't see any options there..

Hit resize in paint. It's next to the select button and above the rotate button. You can either change it by percentage or pixels.

There are some sites online where you can resize images in a pinch. While I can't vouch for any of them, a quick search turns up these options:

http://www.webresizer.com/
http://www.picresize.com/
http://www180.lunapic.com/editor/?action=resize

Someone else might know a better one.

See? 123X150 and still 190.2kb..I don't understand..

And thanks admin. I'll try those out.

EDIT:
Thank you admin again. The first site was the only one that worked for me, but it did so I'm totally saving that site.

I'm not sure how Paint works with resizing, but it might be a result of keeping the image at 100% quality by default and not optimizing it on output. To optimize the image, you'd want to shoot for a quality under 80%, and for smaller avatars you can usually get away with much less than that. This will reduce your overall file size drastically.
