Ok so this is my first post here even though I've been spying on everyone's amazing cosplays for almost 2 years now!

Anyway finally decided to make an account and also get advice. Thing is I recently (like 5 months back?) got into 40k warhammer after the continuous barrage from my friends. Needless to say I feel in love with it and have already bought every book and game I could! When I get into something...I REALLY get into something lol. Anyway NYCC is coming up this October and the thought of dressing up as a commissar popped into my head. I've been researching and looking at all the forums/threads/websites/etc out there and have a general idea of what I want to do. What I need now though are...suggestions?

I have yet to find a trench coat that I really like. I've seen Bulgarian versions and French versions but neither really..."clicked" with me.

I have a pair of gloves...that was actually the easiest part lol! Well that and the red sash...that was also very simple thankfully.

Epaulets I can make and have people I know who can make them also...so that's not a problem either.

How would I go about dying the hat and tunic black? Tried looking online but...yikes!

What type of trench coat would you recommend and how easy/hard would it be to get that black as well?

Um I've seen Sushikai's tunic and am amazed at how well he got it. Any ideas on his design? Or a link to his thread?

I have the general idea down but...kinda lost as to how I go about really...

Oh and if I decide to forgo the tunic where would be a nice place to find a chestplate?

Hello you ! Well since I'm in military costuming and stuff, I would suggest you to not dye your gear in black =/ Because Soviet hats ( like you have ) are made out of Gabardine wool and I don't think it's natural wool so it wouldn't work or it might but not as you wanted... and if you try it might mess your hat... you should get a SS officer hat ( Just remove the pins and anyways people don't really mind about it in cons ) For the coat, it seems to be a French-like trench coat http://www4.images.coolspotters.com/...at-profile.jpg like you said...
