and now I'm thinking it would be really cool to have a LitCon -- where everyone cosplays as favorite literary characters, from any genre, popular or obscure. And people could sell artwork based on the books, indie writers could promote their works, there could be panels for authors and also cover artists, fan panels to discuss various works, contests for guessing peoples' costumes and for best costumes.

then again, I'm geeky like that.
That's an awesome idea! And you could totally pull that off if you tell ALA and SCBWI about it.

I think that would be really fun, and unique. I'd attend if there was something like that for sure.

Also, yay for geekiness.

I had to look those up.
ALA = American Library Association
SCBWI = Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators
both of which have conferences of their own. hmm...

come on people, LitCon isn't going to make itself! Get moving!
Who needs a hobby and likes coordinating people and filling out forms?

Thinking of cosplaying someone (probably Clarisse) from the Percy Jackson series in the near future. X3 And possibly Redd from The Looking Glass Wars trilogy (that series has gorgeous illustrations). I feel intimidated by the awesomeness of those illustrations, though. =X

Makes me sad that literary cosplay isn't more popular. =(

I'm planning to cosplay Melira Astiar from Crown Duel this year. She's one of my all time favorite literary characters.

I'm a member of SCBWI.
They have conferences, generally aimed at writers, booksellers, librarians, teachers, or other adults, but not conventions. There's no cosplay, nothing...young. It's all work-related.

Now, if somehow it was made fun, and kids were able to come meet their favorite authors, dress as the characters, buy awesome books, and stuff like that, it could definitely be badass.

On a large scale, it could even help revitalize the children's book industry.
I think it would be quite a logical step.
(Especially with the Twilight conventions and Harry Potter theme parks we've got going on now.)

Honestly, my SCBWI branch fucking loves this idea. They'd love to help sponsor it.

LitCon sounds like a fun idea. Doubleplusgood.

One of these days, I'll get around to doing the Robin McKinley cosplays I've always wanted to do--to this date she's my favorite fantasy author and writes the most amazing female characters I've ever read. Characters I would cosplay include:

Arein Sol -- 'The Hero and the Crown'
Raven Blaise -- 'Sunshine'
Hari -- 'The Blue Sword'

Outside of McKinley's works, I'd love to cosplay either Johnny Truant or Will Navidson from 'House of Leaves' or the character Red from a novella called 'Roadside Picnic' which was the inspiration for the video game series S.T.A.L.K.E.R. That's the sum total of my obscure literary costumes thus far.

I know, I know, me and my millions of ideas! But this one is actually going to happen, I promise.

I've recently fallen madly in love with Heian era Japan, and just a few days ago I started reading "The Tale of Genji." I'm definitely going to be making Heian court garb this summer, and I might be basing it off of one of the characters in the book. At the very least, I'm using the book as research.

Oh man, this thread has totally filled me with SO MUCH GLEE. You folks have NO idea!! XD

LitCon totally needs to happen! I know soooo many fellow lit-majors/geeks that would be there yesterday. Seriously. It would be amazing, and would do wonders for revitalizing the appeal of the literary world.

To those who've mentioned Gaiman and Mercedes Lackey/Valdemar cosplay - you have my undying fellow fan love. I've been wanting to make a Tayledras mage outfit for years. I even sketched it out, but it's never happened so far.

And Waiting for Godot is made of love. XD

DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE YOU GUYS.

A LitCon would be AMAAAAAZING. Honestly, I would love it and I'm sure hundreds of others would too! We could all run around with books and run around in costume and GAH.

I've already got an Aziraphale Cosplay made and ready! And I have my own Crowley too! I would love to see more people dressing up from Good Omens and other literary works as well!

PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN GUYS QAQ

So I'm actually checking on what it would take to create a LitCon.

What would you guys like about a LitCon?

Author visits?
Writing panels?
Publishing panels?
Costume events (obviously)
Panels on specific series? (Ex. "Dissecting Garth Nix's Abhorsen," or something like that)

What else?
