Sengoku Basara SWORDS!
Hello I'm doing a Date Masamune cosplay/crossplay with my friend as Sanada Yukimura, for a skit in Sakura con..... probably.
Can anyone tell me the easiest way to make swords or where to buy them ( plastic ones?) that won't break during our "fight" scene? *NOTE: I'm not in Wood or Metal workshop so i can't use tools. But i can find things at hardware stores and stuff. |

...what a coincidence...my friend and I are gonna be Masamune and Yukimura for a skit at Sakura Con....with Oyakata-sama too.
D: Sure do hope our skit ideas are different. >.o Anywho...for Masamune's swords I'm thinking of utilizing featherweight's cardboard katana tutorial as a guide. EDIT: Here's a link if you need it: http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=76828 PS: Also...I noticed our custom user titles...made me lol.

I know you said you dont have a wood or metal workshop, but you did say you have access to a hardware store, now you can make swords VERY CHEAPLY and that includes the tools, the miniumum tools you would need to make a sword is:
Coping Saw A Power Drill Craft Knifes Wood Filler Wood Glue SandPaper A rasp or follow this tutorial on how to make one: http://chioky.deviantart.com/art/How...Rasp-135259381 Besides the power drill, everything else will come cheaply, then just follow these tutorials: ------------------------------------------------------------------ The Swordmaking Tutorial: Part 1 (Tools and Equipment) http://chioky.deviantart.com/art/The...-Pt-1-75236042 The Swordmaking Tutorial: Part 2 (Planning and Drawing) http://chioky.deviantart.com/art/The...-Pt-2-78732300 The Swordmaking Tutorial: Part 3 (Cutting out the Sword) http://chioky.deviantart.com/art/The...-Pt-3-78905179 The Swordmaking Tutorial: Part 4 (Cutting out the Tsuba) http://chioky.deviantart.com/art/The...-Pt-4-79326792 The Swordmaking Tutorial: Part 5 (Sharpening the Sword) http://chioky.deviantart.com/art/The...-Pt-5-79963214 The Swordmaking Tutorial: Part 6 (Sculpting the Details) http://chioky.deviantart.com/art/The...-Pt-6-80504566 The Swordmaking Tutorial: Part 7 (Painting and Glossing) http://chioky.deviantart.com/art/The...-Pt-7-81248287 The Swordmaking Tutorial: Part 8 (Constructing the Sword) http://chioky.deviantart.com/art/The...-Pt-8-81760905 ------------------------------------------------------------------ |

We'll have to find each other at the con.....that'd make for an interesting photoshoot.
xD As long as our skit ideas aren't too similar and we're not placed too close together in the performance order shouldn't be a big deal (if you do wind up doing a skit). Good luck to us both and our Yukimuras making these costumes. They should be fun and difficult. :3
