Hello! I'm relatively new here, so I'm not sure if this has been covered already, but if it has then please link me to the thread and delete this one!

I'm planning on creating a Cupcakes!Pinkie Pie for my next Comic-Con! If you aren't familiar with the fan-fiction "Cupcakes", or the cartoon its based off of-My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, I suggest you look it up. The fan-fiction is incredibly gory and violent, however, so watch out for that!

Anyway...

Would it be acceptable to cosplay her outfit from the fan-fiction?

She wears a dress in the story-it's made of flanks/wings of other ponies, and she also has a necklace made from unicorn horns. I'm already drawing up designs and starting on the costume, but I just want to know if it's alright to dress up as character in a fan-fiction. This character is in the actual show, it's just her outfit that isn't canon.

I already know how to make the outfit, just asking if it's acceptable to wear to a convention! I know not many folks will recognize me, but that's not an issue as I just want to be happy in my cosplay. c:

You know, I saw the title of this thread, and thought, "I doubt there'll be much recognition, unless the fanfic in question is like, Cupcakes-level notorious in the fandom..." and lo an behold!

I think in most cases, fanfic cosplay wouldn't be readily recognized by most people, but Cupcakes is just so infamous in MLP fandom that you'd probably get the same level of recognition as just straight-up Pinkie Pie. Any other fanfic in any other fandom might be another story, but you should be fine.

Yeah, Pinkie from Cupcakes would be fine considering how infamous the fic is. I've actually contemplated popular fanfic characters like Nezumi Asuras (Nepetaquest 2011) or Terrifying!Rei (NGE: Nobody Dies, though I'd need to enable a Woobie!Asuka or somebody...), too.

I recall seeing a John Freeman from Half-Life: Full Life Consequences once on deviantART. I think a fan fiction cosplay would be just fine.

Considering I'm planning on eventually coplaying from the TotA fanfiction Reflections, I don't see why fanfiction cosplays wouldn't be allowed.

Definitely considering this. If you want to be recognized at a con, it would probably have to be Cupcakes level of fame, but I'm not wearing my fanfiction cosplay for a con, just the internet.

I've seen a lot of fanfiction cosplays at cons, and I personally enjoy them a lot. There's a lot of creativity and effort that goes into it, and I think it is really cool and unique.
