Help two friends pick a cosplay?

Okay, well a friend and I are soo excited about our first con, but we haven't gotten our costumes figured out yet. Keep in mind these are our first cosplays, and since I and my sewing partners will be doing at least the structure of both in just two weeks, superly complicated stuff is out of the question. (Like Soul Calibur costumes... T_T)
Although we are cosplay newbies, between the two of us and one of my other friends, we've done over 20 costumes for a play, so we do know how to sew. ^^
Me:
5'3", currently black hair, naturally brown, and brown eyes but it doesn't really matter since I can get colour contacts and a wig. Nothing skimpy! A bit low cut doesn't bug me too much, no short skirts or bare tummies. I have a generally quiet personality, so super hyper characters might be a bit of a challenge for my first cosplay. I can do angry or brooding though ^^

Her:
about 5'5", naturally red-blonde hair and "greeny hazelly" eyes, whatever that means. I don't think she can wear contacts, not totally sure. Is expecting to have to buy a wig. She doesn't mind low cut or short skirts, but no bare tummies because she thinks she's got fat there. Hyper and/or strange characters are good! She's got a.. quirky personality.

About the goal:
We'd like to cosplay as two characters from the same series/game. Preferably friends, not enemies, but if you can think of a really good pair, mention it anyway! I've been having trouble thinking of two female main characters, most of the main character duos I come up with are female/male.
Neither of us want to crossplay.

We've been asking around on different forums and the suggestions so far are, with mine listed first:
Tomoyo & Sakura from Cardcaptor Sakura and/or Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, Yuna & Rikku from Final Fantasy X (X NOT X-2), Shia & Misha from Pita-Ten
Himeka & Karin from Kamichama Karin, Rukia & Orihime from Bleach (School or casual version), and Haruhi & Renge from Ouran High School Host Club.

There's a huge list of anime & games we like, but since this post is long enough, I'll just say we're willing to research anything as long as it's not Naruto, because it's simply overdone, or a game on PS3 or XBox 360, because we don't have those consoles.

I think you should do Mio Akiyama and Ritsu Tainaka or Azusa Takano and Yui Hirasawa from K-ON! ^_^ Those aren't really difficult cosplays and they're friends! =]

Hmmmm I'll suggest you any schoolgirl anime, those aren't hard to make =) Maybe Amu Hinamori (her) and Nadeshiko Fujisaki (you) from Shugo Chara!?
