Addams Family Cosplay

This may sounds odd...but my friends and I were thinking of doing an addams family cosplay and I was trying to find a decent morticia costume...my skills at making things aren't that good. Any advice for a novice?

OHH! i love Addams Family- we did that cosplay at my work!
i would do the Thift store thing... maybe find a dress to add the sleeves to. You'll want to look for something floor length, form fitting, and hopefully a bit lacy (even tattered)

that might be harder to find than I thought....I was thinking of finding the dress and doing a gauzy sleeve thing and doing the same at the bottom - but I really don't have many skills.

yeah I would do the thrift store thing look in the vintage section and also in the like prom dresses who knows you may find something

oh and wherever you go someone should tie some invisable fishing wire to a wax hand and make it like walk or just carry it around in their arms or even go as far as making things box (lol sorry I love thing hes my favorite)

Haha. I'm actually thinking of doing an addams family cosplay based on the new broadway musical. I LOVE Wednesday's look in it.

I don't know how much this'll help but here's a breakdown of Wednesday's costume if whoever is doing her needs some help. It also has a link to pictures of some Morticia outfits.

It just started previews in Chicago last week, and it's not opening on broadway till next spring (I'm going to see it March 14. woo!). It's starring Nathan Lane as Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth as Morticia.

Yeah, I'm excited. Wednesday is 18 in the show (it's based off the original comics as opposed to the movies/tv show), and it sounds like it's going to be excellent. I really want to do her outfit. I'll need to look into doing it. Haha

Let me know how the show goes! The original comics were alot different than the movie. I think that Fester was originally Morticia's brother, and that Pugsley was the older child, and that the mother was actually Gomez's mother.....

For a no sew option, I'd go to thrift shops and look for 2 things:

a long slim black dress that comes done to below the knees

a huge 1980's pouffy tulle skirt that is floor length.

than wear the dress over the skirt and it'll look like one long fish-tail dress.

Or, just buy the dress, and than buy 10 or 12 yards of black tulle and have a friend who can sew, sew the tulle into layers of ruffles at the bottom of the dress.

I'm in the process of making Morticia Addams. I bought this pattern: http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction...on_id=26750673 to make it with, because the skirt is absolutely perfect! I'll have to change the sleeves some, but that's pretty easy to do - just find the right sleeves on another pattern! LOL!

I'm going to make it out of black stretch panne velvet (I'm going to Jo-Ann's to buy that later today). It takes 10 yards - 7 yards for the skirt ruffle/train alone!

I'm thinking of adding a PVC/Pleather waist cinching corset and a top hat with a floor length black veil. I know that's not accurate to her show/movie costumes, but I'm going for a more "SteamPunk Wedding" look here. You know - what she would have looked like at her wedding before the kids came along.

Now if only I had a Gomez to go with me! =P

Some thoughts on making a Sesshomaru costume historically accurate.

I saw the broadway two weeks ago, and omg it was amazing! I want to see it again once it opens for real. The next day I went out and bought fabric for a wendesday outfit, so as soon as that gets going I'll post pictures!

Oh, and they make fun of the fact that no one really knows who's mother she is! Both morticia and gomez in the show think it's the other's mother. LOL
