Recommendations?

In this new era of anime and it's acceptability spreading across America, I have only one question. What to buy? If you know any good new anime or old, often unrecognized, anime recommendation you'd like to suggest, please voice them here. Especially if you read mangas that aren't published in English (yet?). Thank you.

Sleepingkirby's recommendations:

FLCL (Cantide!!!)
Naruto
One Piece (Gamu-gamu no...)
Get Backers (Manga)
Black Cat (on a scale of 1 to 10, probably a 6.5-7)
Hikaru no Go (Sai is a guy?!?)
Angel Heart (Tsukasa Hojo's latest)
Family Compo (another of Tsukasa's work. Warning: A LOT of cross gender stuff.)
Ushio to Tora (It's Ushio "and" Tora, by the way. More fun than a wild tiger and a big stick.)
Memories (independent anime.)

>Hikaru no Go (Sai is a guy?!?)

That one even slipped by me, and I can spot a bishie a mile away!

Let's see, my manga reccomendations are:
Paradise Kiss
Clover
Wish

As for anime:
Scryed (the anime is better than the manga 0_0)
Arjuna (so pretty, Yoko Kanno music!)
and everyone's fansub fave .hack//sign

For anime I'd say:

Kodomo no Omocha - comedy
Inuyasha - fantasy
Gravitation - shounen ai
Anything Miyazaki Hayao

Manga would be:

Time Stranger Kyoko - fantasy
Inuyasha - fantasy
Ranma 1/2 - comedy
Anythng Miyazaki Hayao
Violinist of Hameln - adventure

Of course, how can I forget Miyazaki?

Of course, how can I forget Miyazaki Hayao? Actually, my favorite Studio Ghibli work is one of their more unsung works. Not Laputa or Spirited Away (although spirited away did blow my socks off. Even more so than some of their previous stuff, if that's possible.).
I personally like "I can hear the Ocean Waves." and "Whispers of the Heart" or "Mimi Wo Suwaseba." ( Concrete road...) Those two I highly recommend.

Time Stranger Kyoko? I haven't heard of that one before. Are you Chinese by any chance? Have they published it in Chinese yet?

Sorry for going out of topic but Kirby, might I suggest changing the gif in your sig to something else. 350kb is extremely large for a sig file size, Im on 56k and it makes my page load quite slow.

Im not saying this just cause it makes me load slow but Im sure anyone else with dial up will notice a slowdown when loading a page with your sig, besides the fact that as I stated before 350kb is pretty huge.

If you dont feel like changing it then whatever, just thought Id bring it to your attention.

Yeah, I understand. I'm working off a phone line too. I just made that gif and didn't realize how big it was. I'll change it. Sorry about that.

Time Stranger Kyoko is actually by Tanemura Arina and was published by Ribon (I think it's been compiled into three manga volumes now) so no, not Chinese ^^ I don't know if they published it in Chinese though, might have to look that up...

And I'm maybe 1/16th Chinese - I'm more dominantly Filipino with some Spanish mixed in =)

Nurse Angel Ririka - I'm telling you, three things in the world have made me cry to the point of no return. the book bridge to terebithia, the movie What Dreams May Come, and this freakin' anime. but it's damn good!

chobits - very good, but you've probably heard about it

Gunnm- aka Battle angel alita. more violence and blood, but still very good.

Kodomo no Omocha- very cute and funny

I have the last two episodes on tape. I remember watching them... I sat straight up on the bed, hugged my pillow and said, "NO NO NO... THIS ISN'T HAPPENING!" I cried so much I barely saw the tv. "It isn't fair" and then I wept some more. Of course, I was drawn into the whole anime...it wasn't just that the last episode was sad... haha

im a dork.

Oh man, there's a book title that hasn't gone through my head in about fifteen years.

Isn't that the truth XD

Another recommendation: I thought Gundam Wing was good for its plot and characters if you liked it enough to watch it through. Ohh I forgot Twin Signal! FUNNY stuff! Strange how much Signal looks like Inuyasha in chibi form but stupider (hrm? o_O)

Twin Signal? I've always passed that by. I didn't think it was any good. Have to check it out now.

Speaking of Gunnm (the manga rocks!!!), I found another oldie that i thought was pretty good and they recently published into a DVD. Gunbuster. It has elements of voltron in that several (two) mechnical ships form one robot. But it deals with a lot of old sci-fi concepts like traveling in warp actually stops/slows down time for you while the rest of the universe ages. (about three months per light year of something of that matter.) And how you might save the world, but have to outlive all your friends at the same time. I only bought the last VHS.

Thumbs up

Gunbuster is one of my all-time favorites. I found it online on DVD for $13 just now, but it's so hard to tell what's bootleg and what's legit these days.

"Uhm... no, Mister Viz Video presentative... I didn't know that was a pirate... I thought it was an official release.<insert shifting eyes and nervous sweat>"

I'm pretty sure that that Gunbuster dvd was a pirate. But at this point, what choice do you have? I haven't found any legit Gunbuster DVD's yet, and you're lucky if you can find all 3(?) Gunbuster VHS's. Speaking on animes not on DVD, I really wish they'd get Ushio and Tora on DVD soon...
